What's actually so bad about this?
I did play the first one and the only thing I really disliked was how you had to go searching for the dungeons and they'd each be like a 5 minute max 'puzzle' most of which were basically 'just use something to make a ledge or blow something up' there were very little puzzles that were different from one another, I found

Is TotK the same slop?

too bloated and with unnecessary additions/changes like decayed weapons, or fuse mechanic, koroks now have to be transported everywhere
should have been a dlc that kept things the same and had the new story take place entirely in depths and sky islands while keeping the progress from botw (armor upgrades, inventory upgrades, etc)
also, less depths, more sky islands

I think people are more pissed off about missed opportunity than whether the game's fun or not (because fundamentally it is because it's just BotW 1.5 and BotW was fun). They upped busywork tenfold, reusing BotW map only to then allow you to skip most of it with gliding from a kilometer up in the sky ruins the design, the sky is a nothingburger, the depths are a nothingburger, the dungeons are actually just divine beasts redux and of course the story fucking sucks. It's an ungraceful sequel that is way too content with rethreading old ground but with a new tool that arguably makes things worse, not better. In a perfect world they'd have built the whole game world around what you can do with the builder but they just kinda didn't. Despite having taken six years it feels rushed if not outright outsourced.

Instead of doing what every other direct Zelda has done, it decided to just be a glorified expansion pack in the same world and most of the same characters as its direct prequel. Which is extra insulting when no new games were released between BotW and TotK, and when they decided to ask for extra money despite mass asset rehashing.

I see this point levied against Breath of the Wild too and I think it's fucking stupid.
You are gaining new items and abilities over time that open up more of the world, in form of better equipment, fusable items, better food, more zonaite and zonaite parts and so on which allows you to get to your goals faster and more efficiently. It's just not a straightforward get a hookshot in a dungeon use the hookshot in that dungeon. That's not one of the game's problems at all

Better equipment and fusable items is just better numbers on things you could already do.
Same with food.
Zonaite lets you make more complex stuff, but nothing is gated behind a super-complex contraption, so it also doesn't really progress anything like Zelda ought to.

I don't think the progression you're describing actually exists in Zelda games.
Getting a full set of anti-frost armor or building your first airbike changes how you interact with the game. That's progression. Most shit that isn't bombs or hookshot in other games are glorified keys for narrow, specific situations. That's just basic bitch metroidvania shit and there's a reason Nintendo felt like they had to move over it.

>I don't think the progression you're describing actually exists in Zelda games.
Going from not having your projectile launching item to having your projectile launching item (slingshot/bow) happens in every fucking game. It's used as more than just a "switch flipper". Your bullshit about "changing how you interact with the game" is just a fancy way to say you don't like it when there IS a switch for your new item to flip, because that means if you'd found that switch before you found the item the game would've told you no, and the game telling you no is a bad thing.

Absolute fucking drivel.

Like BotW, TotK simply allows players to overcome adversity or problem solve using their own wits and resources. Which is far more rewarding than previous Zelda games where items would literally serve as a key to a lock.

These two things can both be true at the same time. TotK definitely has a lot of "content" but it's mostly low effort, rehashed, sparse bullshit like the shrine crystals or having to farm an immense amount of charge or armor upgrades or fucking escort quests but the way it's strewn about is a lot less graceful than with BotW and certain areas of TotK do actually feel totally empty for that reason

Using an interface to directly inform and influence the gameplay is the literal definition of what a video game is.

TotK filters many low IQ retards very easily and being too stupid to press "Y" to simply sort your items is a dead giveaway.
