Playtonic missed their window to get this onto Switch 2 before DK Bananza came out.

Coulda made bank if they had been quicker.

What a fumble.

Yooka-Laylee would not make bank no matter when it was released, people remember the original version.

I never played it. I might be interested in this remake if impressions are positive.

They won't make anything. The whole appeal was JON TRON and they got rid of him. Why do you think they're remaking a game that's less than ten years old?

it's fine, the switch 2 will be around for like 8 years

>>713884187
the remake is a lot more polished
I would get it if I hadn't played the original already

>>713884358
>whole appeal was jon tron
the appeal was it was a banjo spiritual sequel by the same team

>why remake
cause they ran out of budget the first time, so certain things weren't as polished as they liked
the game wasn't bad, it deserves a second chance

Because nobody bought it after they found out Jon Tron got removed. We live in a post-launch DLC/update world. All that means is sales were low.

no, the problem was the kickstarter stretch goals took up too much time and effort which should have been spent on the game rather than making manchildren happy

It's fine, there will be a bit of a drought after bananza, drag n drive, AoI and metroid (also on switch 1) won't eat into its audience, only one that might is pokemon and that's also on switch 1, and there are no other big games in the future with set release dates yet, that said
>touting accessibility options as a selling point
yikes!

What's the point of this remake? To fix the original you would need to change so much shit that it'd be essentially a new game. Just make a sequel.

No nostalgia googles
Anonymous No.713893536 [Report]
Still need to play tooie and dk64 before I jump into this one. I remember the hype was off the charts when this game was on Kickstarter. Would have thought they'd have made more games by now.

Those character designs still suck so much. I'm just saying.
The YL games actually seem okay, once you get past the character designs. Complete branding misfire.

They look like chewing gum mascots.

You mean the target audience for this game using nostalgia for a game series from twenty years ago?

This is what struck me most about criticism about YL. A lot of the shit people threw on it could easily be applied to those games and it really exposed how many people never played them and just jumped on the bandwagon to feel included.

Platonic probably doesn't even have dev kits and just used the pre-announcement Nintendo Switch 2 fervor to get more eyes on the trailer.

Nigga people didn't even know he was in the game until they removed him. Stop being retarded.

The level design's one problem, it's just too sprawling, but the other thing is that the whole game feels kinda cheap. You get too much of that default Unity feeling. It's also missing a lot of the detail you'd expect out of a Rare game, for example it fails the Chris Seavor shit game test, which is that if you walk Yooka into a wall, there's no animation for pushing or anything, you just kinda freeze in the walk cycle.

A lot of those people probably played it for 10 minutes at McDonald's when they were 7 which led them to believe it was one of the greatest games of the era
Anonymous No.713896448 [Report] >>713896693 >>713896758
Forgot this was even happening. What can they even change about the game to make it better aside from maybe the controls and camera? Why not just make a sequel?
Anonymous No.713896693 [Report] >>713896858
>>713896448
It's cheaper and easier to modify and existing game than make an entirely new one. They did make a sequel that's actually a lot better than the first game, they were just retarded and made it in a Donkey Kong Country game instead of a Banjo-Kazooie game so no one played it.

I unironically recommend Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, it's always on sale for cheap.
Anonymous No.713896758 [Report]
>>713896448
If they had more animation budget for everything this time around, it could be a significantly better game.
Also, didn't Impossible Lair flop despite being pretty good? Maybe it was just easier to do a remake considering their financial position.
Anonymous No.713896858 [Report]
>>713896693
I did play that, I meant more of a 3D sequel. I didn't care for Impossible Lair. I can't remember too much of it but I remember it being pretty dysfunctional in certain situations, I think when you got hit and were limited to just Yooka, I dunno.

uhh
-moving faster had stamina
-too many pagies per world (25), and they were lazy/copy pasted and made the game feel bloated
-too many quills per world (200), and they aren't placed in areas to guide the player.
-none of the npcs changed per world, it was the same shit every time
-getting the ability to fly wherever killed the level design and pagies
-some of the later worlds were really fucking lazy

i had to force myself to beat the original but i did it.
i played the demo of the remake but it doesn't cover the first world.
they let you move faster for free now, but the story and tutorials added actually made the intro worse.
they also gave you most of your unlockable moves at the start now, which seems a bit silly. maybe its a demo thing.

You say that, but Odyssey came out the same year. And the fucked up thing was that it was just a way better Banjo-Kazooie game. It even had a (way better) rolling attack and took the transformation gimmick to the nth degree, generalizing it to every enemy and smoothing out the mechanic. It's hard to complete with Nintendo's AAA if your goal is reviving collect-a-thons.
