>Watch Dogs: Legion source code leaks
Nothing happens
>GTA V source code leaks
1 shitty port got made and everyone forgot about the entire thing
>Witcher 3 source code leaks
Literally no one even noticed aside from some autists that managed to compile the game and never even released the build publicly
>Ready or Not source code leaks
Aside from giving light to the developers greed - bad coding and light doxxing nothing happens

Can we finally agree that gaming is the most 'ucked entertainment platform in existence? Many times audio demos leaked and autists were remixing within hours then uploading to the internet. Movies leaked and anons were seeding 24/7 while shit posting about how bad they are

The reason gaming is viewed as a sub medium is because it is. There is no passion or work put into this shit

>muh AAA slop
>muh 2D pixel shit 'indies'
>muh old but gold copers playing with 2D sprites like barbie dolls

Fuck off

The original devs only fucked themselves by not releasing the source code. If they had, the game would be modded and ported to everything on the planet and live on forever like Doom or Quake. Now they don't even work at nuBlizzard, don't get any royalties from it, and kids nowadays don't even know what Starcraft is because it's a dead franchise.

>Saints Row 4 source code gets leaked
>nothing happens and SR2 still has the better modding scene
And to be fair there's not a whole lot you can do with the source code unless you're a really good programmer that can figure out a way to use it for stuff in the compiled version such as adding mod support, it's illegal to repackage it and give it away for free, or worse, sell it off, unless the game is abandonware and/or the owners are giving the green light. It'd be amazing for wiki game purposes though since that way you'd have the raw numbers to fill the wiki with like enemy stats or how mechanics really work.

Developers and modders are two different audiences that pursue two different goals
