I realized that those that say "she wasn't part of the adventure so MC bonded with the other options more" are literally autistic. They can't visualize the 16 years Eleven and Gemma growing up together is much more than just a couple weeks of fighting.

She is not hated, just nothing that people really think about. You see her in the beginning and then she is gone for the next fortyish hours before you see her again. Its easy to forget she exists.

The thing is people are naturally fond of things they form a bond with. While the backstory says they are childhood friends, the player themselves barely interacts with her, making her not nearly as endearing as the cast they are constantly traveling with. If you could interact with her more through out the game, then she may have gained more fans, but as it stands, about 90 percent of the time, she might as well not exists.

I like Gemma, though I have to admit before playing the game I didn't realise her and Serena were different people

It's why Wild Arms 2 has Ashley regularly go back to a stable location to interact with Marina with her clearly providing emotional support so in spite of her meant to be a normal, non-combatant it works to make her the love interest.

Well Ashley also had the luxury to actually have downtime to visit. You can't really compare then since Gemma is presumed dead at worst early in the game, and once they do finally reunite, the hero is on a race against the clock to reform his party and stop Mordegon before he damages the world any further.
