Whats the sudden obsession whit portable gaming systems.
Like is half of /v/ wageies who spend 2 hours a day commuting?
Playing on a handheld system is literally the least ideal way to enjoy games.
Staring a ta tiny scream playing games at much lower frame-rates and grafical settings.
Some may argue the Comfy in bed argument but you can literally set up a bed gaming environment wo having to fork over 500+ $ for an objectionably worse experience.
Pick related is how i gamed for the past 20 years.
And on rare occasions that i could use a Portable device.. Guess what i have a fucking phone on which i like play Mini metro or some shit.
And sometimes i can even use steam link to stream my home PC to a tablet.
And another thing if i am traveling i am doing so for a reason. To see end experience new places. What retard would pull out a switch or stem deck in the middle of a forest or a tor buss when he whole point of visiting such a place is to soak in the atmosphere.

Feels like people just spend money on shit they dont need and then force themself to use it just to justify the money spent.

Consoomers.
It just ends up collecting dust in a drawer. Also phones are much better for playing games on long commutes and much faster with OLED screens and 3 times longer battery.

I don't mean to be rude, but what's the appeal of a mouse with lights on it, it's a waste of batteries. I can see my mouse with the dim light from the screen, even at night. Why do you need a roll of tape and finger-nail clippers at your gamestation for? Why do you need to put euros there too? Do you just need to use your euros while gaming sometimes? Lol.

OP here i agree.
I dont use the LED on my mouse other than the bare minimum so its easy to find in the dark i still have the same mouse but i made the light even more mute also the mouse is wired not wireless.

I'm more interested in why everyone wants their portable gaming devices to keep getting bigger and bigger. Pocketable portables with unique features about them and games designed with that hardware in mind (obviously less impressive graphically, but games built without a "home console experience" mindset all the time) have ALWAYS been what I've preferred.

>Trade shit for convenience
>Lose the convenience within a few iterations of the product, but you don't get your shit back
It's the classic cycle, eventually they will start reducing the size again, except that you'll be trading off something else for it.

We've done a complete 180°. That shit used to kill handhelds.

The handheld PCs are cheap now. You can buy a used rog ally or steam deck for under $300. Nintendo 3DS was $250-300 when it came out and now you get a system for same money but 100x more powerful

>sudden obsession
There's a reason why the DS is the best-selling gaming product ever. Portable gaming has always been popular, but the problem was that you could only game on shitty hardware.

Handheld + TV/movies is peak gaming

my only issue with modern portable hardware is that somewhere along the way engineers lost the plot on portable hardware should at minimum be pocket sized

I don't get it. I go through this cycle of
>see thread about handdhelds
>oh thats neat
>weigh up pros on cons versus a desktop
>don't buy one because they're utterly pointless
>repeat cycle

>on the go
this is my point. thats there only use case and I cannot think of a more uncomfortable gaming experience than playing in a taxi or train surrounded by normies

You can also dock them into a TV like how laptops have HDMI ports. Laptops are super powerful these days packing zen5 Ryzen and RTX cards. You can even use a egpu.

The fact that they are the same games as the one on PC and console makes even less sense. It isn't like it's a new Mario or God of War game on a handheld but just the exact same game you could play better at home.

Aside from big franchises handheld used to be the domain of lower budget risk taking experimental games. There were reasons to have one even if you only played it at home to experience more games.

These systems aren't even portable. Nobody is going to carry a Switch 2 or a Rog Ally or whatever with them.

PSP and the smaller DS's is really as big as you can get away with.

My faggot wife wants to watch bridgerton or play Zelda on the big screen and I don't want to tool around on my phone all night or unplug everything and drag it to the office.

Get a pair of xreal glasses, then you can game while lying on your back too. And in proper geometric 3d

Problem is, majority of phone games are trash. And I'm not attaching a controller to my phone just so some nigger grabs it out of nowhere. Plus, phones are still stuck in the ps3 era of GPU technology.

Hanndheld systems are simply more comfortable to use. You can adjust viewing angles at will, you have the display in your hands. You can lie in bed. You can go stretch your legs and move around the house with it. Go to the living room or kitchen. You can take it with you anywhere; you can use it to relax after a day of sightseeing during your vacation or use it when commuting to work.

Graphics have hit diminishing returns a long time ago and have largely become a meme. Lower frame rates aren't much of a problem on a controller.

Handheld = ultimate convenience and comfort.
Hope that cleared it up.
