I dont see whats the point of the purse dialogue. If the reference is Pauline's quiz which has the "kidnapped by an ape" quote, they could easily retcon that, with Void Kong being said ape. I think they wont reboot the franchise, nor they care much about continuity. But they will relate Bananza to Odyssey, so it will be sort of a prequel. Cranky inclusion in this game really just makes the whole thing very fucking complicated. Honestly Cranky's whole deal was always stupid as fuck, and always made everything way more complicated than it needed to be. The idea that there are multiple generations of DK that look and act the same and that it either implies there are multiple generations of mario even though that has never come up in any game, OR that Mario has been fighting multiple generations of DK (aside from that one time with DK Jr) was always dumb.

Mario was born in the Mushroom Kingdom, as show in Yoshi's Island. He went to work in the Metro Kingdom and after the DK incident went back to the Mushroom Kingdom.
DK Land has a city stage heavily implied to be the same city from DK arcade.
New Donk City has a festival about DK arcade, that tells the story of the city beginnings. The graffiti of the city also alludes to this. So the city was founded as part of the Metro Kingdom after DK kidnapped Pauline.
