Why wouldn't there be a thread on /v/ right now about the greatest, 2D, melee-combat platformer franchise in gaming history? Let's change that!

Post your:
Favorite Game:
>CV1 - still perfect, as also my first, beat bloodlines and CV1 (picked it up in 2011) this year finally. Awesome games. Only other title I've beaten is the PSP remake.
Favorite Music:
>Probably the Genesis game, but for a single track:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzrvBANyArs&list=RDSzrvBANyArs&start_radio=1
(I really like the PC Engine version but I like the little variant at the beginning for the SNES track).
Hardest game/boss/thing you hate/most frustrating part
>Suffering with Chronicles on PS1 rn. Arrange mode. I know original mode is harder but Arrange is still a ball buster. Was not challenging on Arrange mode at all until I got to Medusa. Even with the wall chicken, this bitch is still wrecking me. I can't get to her with full health sometimes, fucking sucks, 3 goddamn rooms before this cunt. I hear the next level is even worse. Otherwise, Simon's Quest is the most fucking boring shit I've ever played. Won't be finishing that one. CV4 is a fucking glorified platformer, but I'll probably finish it.

Post Castlemetroids if you don't have anything to share.

I've tried to beat Rondo like 5 times now and each time Death on the ship fucking filters me
the only classicvania I've beat is SCIV and I find that one kind of bland, easy and uninspiring

Recently started up a fresh lvl 1 hard mode in PoR, meaning not on NG+ or without any clears on the lvl 50 or 25 caps either. That was a massive mistake because for most of the game you can only afford to get hit twice at most before dying, in other instances you die instantly. Only one more portrait left, so I'll finish it.

It's crazy that despite being over 30 years old there are only a few good classicvanias clones

>Inti

Bloodstained COTM is really good

>AM2

Rebirth and its sub-sequel are great.

>That indie one

I forget the name but it has a Jason boss. It's a really good CV clone
There aren't many good clones either. Lecarde looks janky and plays janky

Not him but Dracula X looks great and IMO the music is fantastic, but it's an entirely different game. I wouldn't even say they're comparable.

If you want something with branching paths, unlockables, and to kinda just dig into an ambitious game, Rondo is great. But if you still want a linear "get to the end of the level" and nothing else, Dracula X was the last "new" 2D game (that wasn't just a port) we got for years until Rebirth & PSP Chronicles.

The level design and challenge are closer to NES games (especially 3 with its emphasis on verticality) compared to how streamlined Rondo is.

Classicvania is inherently zoomer repellent
>fixed jumps?
>delay when you attack?
>can't hit in every direction?
The clunkiness, oh the clunkiness!

Really only the NES games are like that. Most onward play very smoothly.

I still need to beat Bloodlines and Rondo.
