Well I remember reading it morally grey in a lot of areas, that you could cook and trafic drugs, commit regicide and what not, mixed with a supposed "make your own fun" all within in-universe setting of course. So a while after starting the game and a lot of crawling, I eventually come across two big factions, the muslim religious nuts and the other ones that I can't really remember much, and all of them practice slavery, so me thinking "hey slavery its a part of the game, I want to do the same too" but guess what, slavery its not le hecking wholesome or something, so you, the player, can't own slaves, that's a nono. There is however a faction of freed slaves, isn't that wholesome? So then I thought "alright the game won't allow me to have slaves, can I at least make a living by beating bandits and selling them as slaves?" cause you can make a decent living doing that in another game that isn't even focused on that like mount&blade: warband, you can even capture enemy soldiers and sell them as slaves and get an even higher pay depending on their rank, there's this mechanic where you can use sharp weapons to kill or blunt weapons to beat someone unconscious, and guess what, there's something similar in Kenshi YET you can't even make a decent living as a slave hunter. You get spare money at best, scraps at worst. There's even a slave trader faction so it makes you wonder how the hell do they make a living. Overall seeing as my two objectives to make my own fun weren't either allowed or viable, plus the totally unfun crawling for several hours and poorly optimized game, I called it quits.

The game has problems like not being able to be a slaver but you can assign crew members to do slave labour in your bases, mods are always a thing as well. What do you mean by crawling, as in were your legs broken or was your FPS really slow?

Yeah I guess I could have done than and imagine they were slaves instead of crew members, and also ignore the pay. But it all just didn't seem logical to me and that was enough to throw me off, like I understand if a game like minecraft, or a ninteᥒd𐐬 game won't allow you to be a slaver, but fucking Kenshi? And yes, I know mods, I had to install a bunch of optimized textures and meshes I think to finally hit a decent 60fps performance even while the game looked like barely finished mess, but it's one thing to mod a good fun game to make it even better, and quite another to mod it for it to start being fun, plus having to do the optimizing shit. Some landscapes were unique I won't lie, but it feel like once you've seen a city, you've seen em all. Again, it all fells an unfinished mess. As for crawling, I keep running into different variants of bandits that I can't remember the name now and they would beat me so I had to crawl to get to cities.

It was a passion project of a single man for over a decade, I feel its excuseable it doesnt look quite modern or wok perfectly but my aging PC can run it alright. Sort of like Dwarf Fortress dying is a good way start learning quickly, being able to adapt such as not leaving safe areas you might hunt loot and food in before you have enough gear, levels and a crew to explore with. There arent some options like slavery but there is relative freedom and depth many open world games wont offer. If you dont want to learn by mistakes check out some beginner guides, theres some features and mechanics that would have saved so many hours for me but I decided to go in blind.

A beautiful tale of a dying world in which people fight to survive for yet another day. It's cyberpunk post-apocalyptic low level wuxia.
The main issue with the game is the jank going out of control with some features (base building is an example) and the fact that the retards sell this game by bringing forward examples of the wacky shit you can do (the game is about being enslaved, selling drugs and killing rich people LmaoXD) instead of the simple down to Earth experiences that account for most gameplay.
The real Kenshi experience is as simple as being a drifter, sitting down at a bar to eat, getting your things ready to leave. Maybe you'll walk the dangerous sands of the great desert, the peaceful roads of Okran's gift or cross uncharted territory. Anywhere you go, if push comes to shove you can only trust your sword and you will to live to get you out of trouble and hopefully into the next waystation bar before night falls.
IMHO this song is the best in the game and to me it exemplifies the feeling of Kenshi

But there are enough solid bones to keep you going and if you like role playing and exploration you will probably sink many hours into it
After you get a hang of the basics don't be afraid to install mods Fogmen to Fugmen is basically essential, so get that from the Gabenshop even before you load up the game because the base game simply benefits from having more content in it
If you aren't diving into setting up an outpost, don't get suckered into doing things like mining or even crafting if you just have one character; unless you are doing it for roleplay purposes; you can get more money just exploring around and scavenging or helping town guards defend the gate from various animal or bandit attacks, looting anything that falls

You don't know it get, but this is basically monster hunter. Maybe you'll train with a sword for killing humans. Maybe you'll train with a saber or whatever to kill all the bone dogs, then you train with a stick or whatever it was to kill all the robots.

Sometimes you wear armor for protection against a hobo and his beat stick. Sometimes you wear different clothes to avoid being turned into a pile of ashes by a death ray.
There's a layer nuance here that's never really discussed or brought up, but once you realize whats going on there's really no going back.
So train hard, gear up and farm those abandoned sites all over the map and get to researching. These factions ain't going to destroy themselves ya'know.

Make sure you choose a city with at least a general shop as well as a mechanical shop
if you are just doing weapons a small stormhouse or shack will do but if you are getting into armour of any kind you probably want some more room-- the most if you want leather or chain, less if you are just doing clothes and plate-- but keep in mind getting raw ore for plate forging isn't great in most places
finally, prepare to be extremely fucking bored
you can sort of leave it idle while your character smashes through a queue but you will have to sell your goods for more resources fairly regularly so you will have to be awake
even if you just research up to refitted grade you can turn a decent profit on desert sabres, foreign sabres, and Katanas

An initially fun experience until you realize the only interaction you have with the world is making number go up and murdering everyone. No actual faction manipulation. No real thought process behind conflict. Any attempt at roleplaying is hollow and pointless in the end. Mods egg this on and don't actually fix anything. 2 will be more of the same because zergtards make up the majority. Don't get me wrong. That first playthrough is pretty nice and will run you about 200-something hours, but once you get to the endgame you'll see what I'm talking about. Worth a pirate.
