No, if anything straight lines makes using objects more necessary. Bagging is a balance issue, not a level design one. There's other issues that link items and straight lines but that's not one of them.

All intermissions are different, that's not pointless.

There's real flaws to straight lines, but honestly nothing that would outweight the good in my mind. If I want the play the same shit as usual 8 Deluxe is right there.

in reality all those objects and tricks are slower than just driving. it's fun vs winning which should never be a choice in a game

while on the straight tracks they're far too out of the way to gain any benefit and are often slower as a result. if you could do cool tricks and stuff on them people would have less an issue, but it's just not worth doing hence why people find them boring

This game isn't worth doing either of things for, and I would've told you this was one of the best Mario Kart games before the last update basically killed it. There's not a chance in hell Nintendo is reverting the update, so there goes the $80 I spent expecting to play online for hundreds of hours like I did with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. :(

Just chill out and have fun until the "Classic Mode" patch and/or 200cc

They have some right, maybe not the absolute right, to ask you to play the game their way.
