It's not about being insecure. It's that half of the fun in these kinds of games, is improving, and overcoming a challenge. Using summons, npc's or players, negate the challenge, and thus also negates the fun.

Stop being disingenuous. Not upgrading/levelling, just makes the fight go slower, and make you die faster. Using summons changes the fight on a fundamental level, and in most cases completely and utterly removes any challenge at all.

All player-type summons are exceptionally aggressive and decently tanky which makes them excellent at any challenge. The mimic tear takes whatever you're doing and just literally doubles it, doesn't even matter what. You using status? Now the boss is getting proc'd every 5 seconds. You do lots of poise damage? Enemies will never get the chance to even fucking stand up. The only way your mimic can be shit is if you're using a caster build and keep a bunch of support spells equipped, causing it to spam pointless bullshit during combat. But that's not a build issue, it's a "spend 2 seconds at the grace to unequip some spells" issue.

I watched a guy do a "summon only" run of the game and it was way harder and way more tedious than killing shit yourself. It barely worked against certain bosses and even then it was only viable because he used healing incants to keep the summon alive. More work than just hitting the boss.

Summons can't reliably hold aggro, you'll think you're safe and get shanked. Not to mention aoe.
Unironically I had a much easier time in any of my melee runs without summons compared to with.
They're more helpful with casters, but only for the three hits they can tank.

It's not about making the game as difficult as possible. It's about trying to maintain a fair level of difficulty so that you're challenged without being effortlessly crushed. Wiping the floor with a boss without getting an opportunity to see all their moves and learn how to counter them feels awful, almost like missing content. Likewise, it isn't fun to throw yourself at a boss over and over if you can barely chip away at their health. Sure, there are outliers on either end, the "grind and overlevel onlys" and the "no-hit SL1 speedrunners", but the vast majority of players find a moderate level of difficulty fun. In every Souls game (Sekiro excluded), there are built-in ways to shift that level of difficulty to your liking. That said, if you use too many of these crutches I'm gonna think you're a faggot who refuses to engage with the game on anything but his own terms, and if you manage to pull off an SL1 fists only run or some shit, then I'll just think you're an autistic masochist.

Pretty much any of the pack of goon type summons are fukkin kino.
The little warscream and diminutive nature of the demihumans makes them exceptional for vibes, but really, any of them are great.
Demihumans are great.
Rats are great.
The, fukkin, whatsit, Nokstella shield guys are great.
Any of the foot soldier summons are pretty good.
There's something fundamentally satisfying about going in with goons at your back, and there's really something feel good about most, or all of the gang surviving to the end, or making ballsy as fuck plays to save a goon from otherwise certain death.

The saddest thing about summons is how few people actually engage with them beyond mimic tear and maybe one of the banished knights before then, they're missing out on how neat they can be.
