Take me back to the old days with my clear GBC and my Nokia phone with the transparent yellow faceplate.

Not that I've ever dealt with manufacturing, but could there be a reason why translucent colored plastics stopped being used for consoles and controllers? Maybe the material doesn't work as well with the heat given off by the console or something?

It's all about chasing trends. Electronics only come in white and black now, just like how we have only a handful of car colors now and it's just all the same colorless shit. The cycle of, "Well, consumers don't want 'fun' designs because they don't buy them," but they aren't bought because they aren't even made in high quantities.

Plus, being able to clearly see the tech inside would embarrass the manufacturers who keep cutting corners with their iterations. Kind of like how the second-run of PS5s had a pretty substantial change to the heat sinks and they weren't too happy that people cracked open to console to find that out.
