Just finished the PC port of Enslaved Odyssey to the West on Hard. Great characters, story, and environments. A post-apocalyptic beauty, imo. Cinematics hit hard and the parkour has its moments (windmill section = PEAK). But the PC port is lazy at best. Don't ask me about mouse controls and the auto aim. Stutter from loading on the render thread (lmao ever heard of multithreading, bros???), UI screams "console", controller icons in the menu (skull) and janky collision/hit detection (maybe im just bad and the plasma gun can shoot through mech limbs, idk). FMVs are a big no no imo, look no better than in-game and suffer from minor jpeg artifacts.
Game breaks flow (rarely, but it happens. side effect of trying to be too cinematic) with forced cinematic sequences. Like during the first dog fight: you have to wait for a countdown above its head before the finisher prompt even triggers, even if you get ahead. And bugs/mechanical jank make Hard mode feel like a test of patience, not skill. Still, Trip & Monkey carry. Loved the Ico influence on their dynamic, though I remember having to defend Yorda like 100x more than Trip lmao. Would’ve been a solid 8(9?) if cleaned up and longer (seriously, give me more levels where you actually have to protect Trip and more Cloud sections too). The current state is a 7 max. Music jumps between good and very strong.
Cool tracks: Cloud Surfing, The Hero's Journey, Protecting Trip (fav)
First ever ninja theory game i've played.
