Because nobody was buying them. Did people really forget the Gamecube was the worst selling console of that generation losing to even the Xbox? Even worse, Xbox and Gamecube came out at around the same time and Xbox was a brand new name from the Microsoft Office people against literally fucking NINTENDO so that should have never happened. Both got obliterated by the PS2 and SEGA quit, but I don't understand how people seem to forget that nobody wanted a Gamecube back then and a good amount of people who had them didn't play it as much when they had a PS2 or even an Xbox.

inflation calculator says that is around $175 in today's money, this puts in the same ballpark as the Switch Lite

so it's a great price but not that crazy, i was able to convince my mother to buy one shortly after it went on sale for $99 mid-summer as a "early christmas gift" i got it with Windwaker, i have fond memories of that summer.

Bullshit. It's a mobile 4060 AT BEST. AKA 4050.
Which still shits all over the PISS5 because it can do 1080p at ultra settings and get 60 FPS minimum. PISSOFSHIT5 can't even do 1080p60 at low settings with PSSR.

Idk why bad faith faggots screech about games costing more today is actually fair and erm games in the 90's would be over a hundred bucks with adjusted inflation!!
Just show them this, and with adjusted inflation its still under 200 bucks

If they say "erm but it has different specs", call them a mega faggot and remind them that cartridges in the 90's cost a good amount to manufacture so their original argument is GAY and SHIT

It's literally okay with Snoy does it, retard. That's why it's also perfectly okay they're selling a console with no games for the low, low price of $700. And for the minute price, don't forget to spend another $100 because it's missing a stand and disc drive! Only disgustingly jewish Nintendo would charge $80 for a video game, but don't pay attention to Snoy reselling TLOU for the 5th time, but this time at a mere $110.

I'd pick up maybe even two Gamecubes or maybe just one with some peripherals including the thing that allows you to play GBA games on the big screen. The Gamecube was a great designed console with piss poor thinking at the end because they gave it mini disks instead of DVDs.
They then filled 95% of the library with children's games and it comically got nicknamed the Crapcube.

I love the GC design. The controller is awful but the console itself is beautiful.
It's just sad that it only has around 15 games worth bothering with

I can get people complaining about cost because everyone is poor now and everything is expensive. However, when a dinner out for 3 costs 100 bucks minimum these days, I can't believe that people specifically complain about the cost of a switch when it will provide hundreds of hours of fun while a mean lasts 30 minutes

Looking back in hindsight it was a much better deal than the 3shitty. You get backwards compatibility with most PS1 and PS2 games while the 3shitty got a more limited bc with the Xbox. So in addition to getting to play thousands of games there was also the eventual games PS3 did get later into the life cycle of the console and the most important part, free online. FREE ONLINE!

True there was supposedly a YLOD issue but it was nowhere close to as prevalent as the 3shitty's RROD issue. Anyone claiming otherwise today is a massive shill for MS to not be listened to.

So PS3 was a much MUCH better deal than the 3shitty in hindsight. I'd gladly spend $600 for a brand new PS3 with full bc right fucking now actually since any YLOD issue would also be completely solved. Imagine having access to all the library of PS1, PS2 and PS3 back then and claiming this is somehow garbage.

No one bought games advertised directly from the magazines like that you 'tard.
They were always marked up way above what they were worth. You went to something we used to have called a game shop where you could exchange something called cash for something called a physical box and inside that physical box would be a disc that contain the data of your game.

Sony already went through its corrosion of perception from the PS3 onwards. Nintendo, though they have always been anti-consumer fags, has always been the affordable option in the market. Their bs lawsuits and trigger happy lawyers can be ignored by the average customer. Them jacking the price on consoles and games is something people can't glance over. There is no affordable option anymore and the ones who were providing it are stepping on the gas to push prices higher while giving you less.

Sometimes it feels like people are expecting charity from Nintendo, yeah they were the affordable option but they were also the garbage hardware option people complained about all the time, since the Wii their favorite rumour was always how the "Pro" version is about to come out, and when it does they don't want to pay for it, even now, despite all the "DROP THE PRICE" and shit people still were also mad about the screen not being OLED, basically asking for the console to be even more expensive, or as I said before about charity, expecting improvements to come for free, it's even dumber with Nintendo when they never sell anything at a loss

I think it's partially nostalgia, the Cube was the last time Nintendo was directly competing in the console war. The decision to go with carts on the 64 and being hostile to 3rd party devs since the 80's really screwed them. Nintendo never really recovered from the 64 so now they do their own thing. Fuck the game keycards though.

Nintendo: GameCube vs. Switch 2
This comparison shows the evolution over 24 years, from Nintendo's iconic 2001 console to its 2025 powerhouse.

Raw Power: The Nintendo Switch 2 is approximately 32,772% more powerful than the GameCube, delivering nearly 329 times the raw graphical performance.

Don't worry, it's the Nintendo cycle. They'll never go broke and collapse; too large a warchest and a culture of always ensuring profit. But they've been humbled before. They become arrogant and greedy whenever the experience success, overreach, and then are forced to become consumer friendly again. Either this generation or the next will see them stumble again, and they'll have to change their ways (at least for a little while).

And they went away too.
It also happened with handhelds, btw. The DS was an enormous success and they thought "what if we sell this piece of shit hardware with this 3D gimmick for an absurd price?" they had to take it back quickly after. They show moments of stupid, irredeemably greed. And those who are loyal to them eat shit, like with the ambassador program. 10 fucking ROMs in compensation, what a fucking embarrassment that was. Early 2010s for Nintendo were just dread and misery.

Motion controls were primitive until they released the Motion Plus.
Online was trash, the only cool feature was having it do updates and such on standby. Mario Kart and Brawl online were nearly unplayable.
However I agree that it was the best thing to have modded back then. Even better than the classic Xbox, despite it being still more powerful. It was the best platform for emulation on a CRT for a good while. And the classic gamepad was solid and they managed to figure out decently low input lag wirelessly (god knows the wavebird was the laggiest piece of shit controller back then). And you could use a hard drive and put a fuckton of games in there.

This is the big one. Everything moved so damn fast back then. Prices plummeted as manufacturing costs dropped, and companies vied for your business. It also helped that most games weren't 1000 personnel studios and we weren't in an eternal recession at the time.

It's not even that I don't have the same time I did as a kid, gaming HAS changed, for the worse, but ignorant consoomers don't care because they have excessive realism, bloated resolutions, gimmicky lighting physics, and every other game is open world because they apparently NEED games to feel like it's real

The beach games of 2000s were yelled about here first in 2018. Suddenly it's a talking point on Twitter and Facebook -- using our same image example -- in the last 2 years. Then the threads come back here. Same as this GameCube thread. Fucking ebaumsworld zoomers.

nintendo felt like they had to compete. today they dont feel that way, they just sell plastic junk, cardboard, and ports with the nintendo logo and all the consoomer tards shower them with money.

Why would I? When the "competition" is still even more expensive? Should I just stop playing modern games altogether?
