Wait hold the fuck on: I just thought about it but Blades were converted into Titans on Torna. 500 years after Torna's fall, there's a drastic shortage of Titans. To the point they're dying faster than they can be replaced. I don't think Blades require Torna's womb to be converted to Titans but I do think Torna was keeping the Titan shortage at bay. Which means Mythra fucked up way worse than I thought.

As an aside, why can Azurda talk? I think he's the only Titan that speaks and has a relationship with humans. Granted Pandoria can give orders to Genbu but that seems to be a unique thing that no one else can do

I did not get this on my first playthrough. I though Amalthus just wanted to control the distribution of Blades to various regions so he had power over the whole world, which is partly true.

I don't even know when I did learn it, if it was through my second playthrough or at some point here on /v/. But it's pretty nice how tightly written the story is with characters motivations and how they affect the world. Amalthus wanted the world to end so he picked the slow starvation route

Well I also think that Amalthus was, at least partially, hoping someone would prove him wrong. After he saved Zeke and they had their conversation, Zeke noticed Amalthus's hatred had leaked through. But he also noticed Amalthus's sadness at admitting his hatred of people. This isn't me saying "poor Amy baby" because at the end of the day he was too far gone to be saved. But for a guy who wanted to watch humanity suffer and die out of spite, he could've done far worse given his resources

Rex didn't really awaken Pneuma, he bonded with Pyra/Mythra long after the fact, it wasn't until he put his whole conviction behind saving them that Pneuma in turn became whole.

What's doubly funny is that Mythra's empathy was something that was learned. When you first meet her, Mythra has no compunctions about threatening Lora and Jin with Siren. And she was going to vaporize Brighid after getting slightly annoyed by her. Mythra was a psycho during her introduction in the Torna DLC and was disturbingly close to Malos in how little she cared about people. But over time she began to connect with more and more people until by the end, she was as much a Tornan knight as Addam. That's why she was able to understand the horror of what she did and why that guilt crushed her. Because by that point she had the empathy to feel it.

The World Tree is actually just a giant laboratory where the experiments from Xenoblade 1 took place.
Pyra and Mythra die but get deus ex machina'd back to life for a forced happy ending.

Xenoblade 2 is the home world of Klaus.
Klaus is the father Mythra and Malos keep talking about, and he's split in half (Zanza is his le evil half)
Jin gets redeemed and dies to Amalthus because this game sucks.
Nia gets a true blade form and you get to equip her.
Somehow Pyra and Mythra are actually halves of another being, and she's the most broken blade in the game.

All of the anti-hero squad dies to Amalthus.
You lose access to Amalthus' titan once they declare war.

It's just cause they're popular and 'innocent'. As far as the whole Xenoblade series is concerned, they're easily the two most popular characters now, beating out Shulk, who doesn't even have his own figure beyond an Amiibo. Meanwhile Pyra and Mythra got official figs, Amiibo, and a good mix of both SFW and NSFW off-brand figs. Those two alone still probably get more art now on average than anyone from XC3.

Combine that with their unsullied simple love for the young bright eyed shonen, and it's ripe territory for NTRslop artists. Same goes for Tifa, Aerith, Zelda, Peach, Persona girls, Dragon Quest girls, any big Shonen Jump heroines. You get the idea.

It's not a bad story at all, really. Just a bit inconsistent, underwhelming, and perhaps disappointing given it was the culmination of such a lore-rich series. Like, I can personally attest that I wanted this game to blow my socks off, and really, it was just a good time.
I'd still say at it's worst it's a 7/10 and at it's best it's essentially a 10.

It's definitely a game you need to replay or at least revisit more than once to appreciate some of it's messages. I would say it's slightly worse than 2.

The story could be easily rewritten as a very good story but the way it is inserted into the game is terrible. In order to fit around the system of being able to do all of the character quests in any order at any point in the plot, the quests and their events end up very isolated, where any character development gets thrown away at the end of the episode and is never called upon again. If the game was simply willing to lock more quests behind multiple pre-requisite quests, as well as locking later chapters and the endgame behind all of the main party character quests and perhaps a few mandatory side characters, it would be much easier to create a cast that actually feels like it is growing and evolving over the course of the game.

You need to remember that Blades take the form of what the Driver desires for their first awakening. Amalthus wished for power and destruction so Malos was full powered right from the start.
Addam feared the Aegis' power and was expecting a daughter at the time so it influenced Pneuma causing Mythra to appear. An immature and weaker Aegis compared to Malos.
Mythra could only win against Malos when she had the Pneuma sword.

I want a spinoff in 2’s direct setting to play as a villain who uses a device that allows forcible theft of Blades. Instead of a gacha mechanic, you’d have to purposefully seek out rare, hidden, challenging fights to get the best Blades. Weakening the boss, and performing some mechanic to pull off the theft. I think it’d be really fun to be given a reason to explore a huge playspace, or finding an optional fight to come back to and getting a great playable reward.

I think that boss is just designed to be a pain in the dick and/or a general level check. A lot of these effects sound good on paper but actually using them effectively takes foreknowledge and a lot of setup. I hate what it did to the lore's series.
I hate the combat having SEVEN party members at the same time. It became messy, plus it has the worst chain attack in the whole series. The job system couldn't be less generic, FF5 did it better +30 years ago.
I hate the lack of traditional towns.
I hate the villains.
I hate the ending.
I didn't hate the OST but it didn't have the highs of XC1/XC2.
Even the art direction felt less unique. There is no design who will generate millions of fanart like Pyra/Mythra did. They are "safe", more consistent than XC2 for sure but nothing particularly noteworthy.
By far the worst world design in the whole series. There is nothing in the game comparable to Eryth Sea or Uraya.
But most of all, i hate the characters. Noah and Mio are too vanilla. They don't have real chemistry. Sena, Lanz, Eunie and Taion felt like Tales of characters. All milquetoast characters.

I wished this game didn't existed. After XC1/XCX/XC2 i used to say Xenoblade was the best modern Nintendo had to offer, now i wish Monolith Soft
would just make a new IP.

Can someone explain how Pyra and Mythra are different? I kinda forgot but from what I recall Mythra created/changed into Pyra to hide from what she's done, right? But the two of them are sort of different, I think?

Same person. At least that's how Rex think of them. Pyra is basically a alter made to cope with the trauma, Mythra is the OG. Pneuma is both of them, which is why Mythra said naming her Pyra or Mythra in this form didn't matter.
