Is Postal a lighting in a bottle franchise? Only Postal 2 seems to be well received or discussed to this day.

Because it's a sandbox game with immersive sim elements built entirely around being edgy and offensive to certain groups of people. Postal 1 is a twin stick shooter that didn't work on modern computers for the longest time, Postal 3 was disowned by the developers because it's not a good game at all, and Postal 4 is stuck forever straddling the fence of retreading the same worn out ground as before and being too different from what people have long since become accustomed to. There's also Brain Damage but that's not really a Postal type of game, just a straight forward FPS. That's why you only ever see or hear about 2.

Postal 2 is RWS' magnum opus, for sure. I still think 1 is pretty good for the kind of game it is, though.
Paradise Lost should be judged as its own thing since it was made almost 15 years after the fact, and it's damn good considering that.
I haven't played 4 yet. I see that it still gets updates now and then, so I'm pretty much waiting for it to be DONE done. I did play Brain Damage, though. That one's pretty good.
