Anyway, most racers have very, very minimal slowdown when up against a wall so wallriding became a viable "strategy" especially in games with some kind of boost that can offset the minimal slowdown like burnout or nfs.

I played it for exactly 30 minutes. Kept getting annoying that every track stopped you from cutting corners at all and essentially removed all classic challenge from the game. You couldn't even shroom over some grass anymore, it was atrocious.

I'm genuinely shocked that anyone likes MK8 but the fact that many consider it the peak of the series is just insane. I just played DD last year again on emulator. It felt great, 10x better than MK8.

MK8 was tainted by fire hopping. MK8D was perfect. A lot of sweats hate that you can't do absurd skips but that's what makes the game great. No stupid skips makes the game more accessible because it means you don't need to study and memorize all the time trials for 90+ tracks to be competitive.

MKW unfortunately suffers from this, and the intermission tracks are the only thing keeping the game accessible to casuals. The wall riding and rail riding mechanics were a mistake. They alienate new players.

Tons of fangames, and Spark the Electric Jester 1&3 are damn good for what they bring to the table. etc etc.

This entire game is still built like a normal Mario Kart game, the tracks are awkwardly stapled onto an empty and pointless open world, and whether you think the highways have good track design or not, they barely have anything interesting going on if ever past the race itself.
This shit has absolutely no nuance to the open world, it's so tacked on despite being so fundamental. They basically missed the entire actual point anyone would want an open world for racing BECAUSE they designed normal 3-lap course tracks all over the place that everything has to connect to physically. If they really wanted to make an open world racer, they should've looked at Burnout Paradise, because instead you have a game that missed the mark but thinks it has a point to make by forcing everyone to play its empty open design.

I'd honestly argue that SMK has a good diffculty curve with acclimating to the controls, since they're loose enough to really force you to pay attention to how, when, and where you approach turns. And when you start blitzing through the track after learning it, it feels really good, and you enter this flow state. It's something I felt hasn't been really matched by the 3D games outside of Double Dash.
It's really only the singleplayer GP that's the annoying part, as character choices literally rig the difficulty (Koopa players have to deal with a near constantly invincible Luigi rival, for one).
Super Circuit in comparison always felt like a more polished SMK, even going as far as to include the SNES tracks as unlocks. Maybe that's why I like it so much.

I've played all the tracks/grand prixs/tours and I decided to finally give the open world a spin.... and I'm bored as shit after playing it for only an hour. Nintendo really spent nearly 10 years on this and thought it was fun? I never want to play the open world again. Can you even just do random races in the open world or not? Wii is definitely challenging to master since the mach bike is best yet because of its inward drifting there is more chance of hitting those walls. It also has a far more punishing rainbow road than world
