It only works with Japanese carts and you need a Japanese bank account to buy stuff on the nipshop

OP failed to mention these are only purchasable for those Japanese people that have biccamera credit cards.

I don't think that's true, the only difference is that the system language can only be Japanese which will force most games to match that.

>only works with Japanese carts
Nope, it's a regular switch BUT the only language it has is japanese, so all system menus AND games will be in japanese, so unless you speak nip, you won't understand anything.

Everything will be in Japanese, which means that multi language games will be in Japanese by default unless you can change the language from the options (that's pretty standard, but some games still use the console's language.)

There is no clear information whatsoever. Some say you need japanese bankacount. Some say you dont get updates in the eu cartige games through japanese e shop. If it where just japanese console i would get it but seems like there is much to more to it

because at some point you'll want to play shit in the original language (English or French or whatever) and you won't be able to
you won't be able to redeem or buy DLC unless bought directly from Japan too

Besides the obvious that the system menus will all be in Japanese, the main issue is if you want to buy or do anything digitally. The eShop requires credit cards from that region only so if you live in Japan, can't read Japanese but still want things digitally you'd have to buy the voucher codes at retail whether its digital games, eShop credit or switch online digital vouchers

This then leads to what happens if you travel or move abroad? You can use carts you buy anywhere and the games would be running in those languages(reminder: your system main menu is permanently in Japanese) but are screwed if you need to do anything digitally like renewing your Switch Online and Expansion Pack.

Source: Resident who lives in Japan that has a US account and looked into any possible benefit of just getting one at retail here but was forced to essentially import it from NoA.
I can read Japanese just fine but it's still not my native language at the end of the day so when I am playing games I don't want to have to be in "translation" mode.

You can easily buy shit outside of japan like Webmoney to fund your JP account. It's the reverse that actually sucks.

Spend $200 euros on a refurbished gaming laptop and just pirate the 1000s of games you want to play.
No reason to own a console or handheld in the current century.

Most go to Hawaii and Guam, which are both basically Japanese colonies.
If they go further they're either weird outcast westernized Japanese or they're rich and sink big $$$ into organised tours and hotel packages that cater for their language barrier.
They're too autistic and shy as a nation to do things like "winging it" and "fuck it just use Google Translate"

The Multi Language version is only available online and need to have fulfilled all of the necessary requirements on your NoJ account along with winning the lottery.
Retail is Japanese only

Most likely, you're missing the sign that says "sold out" next to the stand. Or maybe "only sold to our credit card holders (gold tier and above)".

At least that's what I saw in some local stores close to where I live here in Japan.

Yes, it happens. They don't want to put a sticker on every small box with the Switch 2 or temporatily hide them all away etc., so the "sold out" info will be one big sign next to the stand.

>Played PM:TYD in Japanese and was bored as fuck outside of combat
> In English, it was the funniest and best game of my childhood
> Same for GCN Animal Crossing and later entries

I think Bill Trinen's sarcastic dialogue is actually just the reason I liked these games. Japanese is a passionless language. Except for how much they used セクシー in a children's game.
