Its part of the FGC's pathetic attempts to seem more impressive than it actually is. That the single most exciting moment in their entire history is *just* another day to them.
Obviously it isn't because one asian beat another in a fighting game 25 years ago and IS STILL FUCKING TALKED ABOUT TODAY.

They've been milking moment 37 for 20 years, holy shit.
At least mention the Hugo moment from last Evo or something, tired of hearing about the gay ass chun li parry
>>713954165 >>713955582
Sorry but EVO is owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment since 2021, they're not allowed to something cool like this if it hasn't been approved by Papa Playstation, and right now Papa Playstation only focuses on Capcom because they're making Pragmata for their console.
>Obviously, it's the No. 1 highlight, but in picking a number like 37, it would signal to the viewer who wasn't there that there were many incredible moments like the "Daigo parry." He wanted to make sure people didn't miss out on Evolution 2005 coming next year.

i've heard some jwong and choi comebacks variously reffered to as 'evo moment number x' it really depends on which oldhead you ask.
>>713953021 (OP)
we need to go back in time and stop evo moment 37 from happening
I don't care of it kills street fighter 3, I'm just tired of seeing evo moment 37 get glazed to death
>>713961062
oh i'm aware. fighting games in general have been ass for quite some time now, and too many people get desperate for esports money when that only really matters for street fighter or tekken, and even then most people won't even come close to that level of talent or skill required.

Iunno chief, regardless of hype it's one of the few cases of establishing why understanding mechanics and the matchup plus practice can produce more substantial results than a character's kit carrying you.
Don't get me wrong Ken is still Ken, but that's a separate discussion.

Fighting games were better when it was hood niggas, barrio niggas, and hmong niggas talking shit and threatening to fight/stab each other. No more SmoothViper making some white faggot autist cry. No more washed up old niggas like CLACKWERK. No more SooMighty stoned off his ass stomping Wong in Marvel. No more popoffs leading to fist fights. It's all gone and will never return. The Ghost of Marvel was the finale of the true FGC which had already been waning with SF4 as corporate money started creeping in to sanitize it.
>>713953021 (OP)
Pro tournaments are cool because best of the best autist duke it out but holy shit, actually cheering and acting like a retard over shit happening in a game is the most pathetic shit ever. A lot of humans need to be killed.

Most 09ers only experienced the fading light of the real FGC. I didn't live in NYC or SoCal so I never got it either during the 2000s. I had to read about shit like Josh Wigfall getting drive by'd or Sanford bitch fits on SRK after the fact. I remember how big a deal it was when Sanford beat Wong at Breakpoint. People really forget or don't know how fucking good Wong was back then. Fucking 3 year undefeated streak.
I don't play fighting games, nor care for them, but I always wondered...did nobody know about that parry technique? Or was it just like incredibly difficult to pull off in a real match? I watched the original video, and everyone shit their pants when he pulled it off, so it's almost like nobody apparently knew it was possible to do that or had never seen it successful performed?
>>713958027
The other half of his personality was filtering people from the MVC collection, which just seems so fucking retarded. Yeah, push away people who might be trying the series for the first time and then wonder why it has a low playercount, Capcom isn't doing shit anymore, and Marvel ran to ArcSys.

Parrying is an important mechanic, what was impressive was the combination that >He was one hit away from health, so failing a single one of the parries means he loses >He parried EVERY single hit of the super >He then was able to combo into a killing blow
>>713965001
So it was just a really, really difficult thing to pull off especially in the heat of the moment? And I'm assuming that Super was really hard to parry since it hits multiple times?
>>713964931
To be fair, that was initially put upon by him by twitter fgc. He was just playing random and low tier teams. Though he did run with it by the time of cvs2.
>>713964830
A beginner can parry supers in 3S without much practice, it's more that JWong used his to end the match instead of running out the clock. He expected Daigo to either block it and take chip damage to die, or have to parry it which while easier said than done is not impossible. Especially Chun-Li's second super, she's the best character in the game so Daigo had probably practiced parrying it a million times. The hardest thing Daigo does is hit confirm (kick) into his own super after parrying to kill JWong
>>713964830
Gonna be that guy and say any pro taking the gaming seriously probably practiced parrying one of the most commonly picked top tier's super(blocking is something that can happen quite often do to missed hit confirms.) There are other supers that are way harder to parry, but it just was a do or die situation and it also led to a victory, so it made it more impressive.
>>713960914
You literally had to be there. Before it happened, the general consensus was that parrying Chun-Li’s super was incredibly difficult if not outright impossible.
>>713955582 >At least mention the Hugo moment from last Evo or something
It's always really gay to me when people call it moment 38 when the entire point is that it's just a random number.
