Yakuza is actually a good example of this because all of the characters based off of actors, use actors with well-defined facial creases and blemishes or sometimes exaggerate their features.

you can really see it with Iura Arata
the picture of him has quite subtle features but still easy enough to pick out, but the lighting in game flattens it out and you can't pick out the more subtle features so it looks weird and unrealistic.
it would look really bad for someone who had even smoother features.
