I think most people who play this or mgs v arenโ€™t the same people who enjoyed mgs 1-4, if weโ€™re generalizing, that is. Mgs v was definitely a normalfag game that got really popular due to the type of game it was and when it came out, and most normalfags threw him on that tier of cult of personality fame Kojimas old fans put him on. I canโ€™t speak for ds1 or 2, but Iโ€™m guessing it sold a fraction of what mgs did.

Glad someone else agrees. Kojima's attempt to shill these Literally Who artists is just pathetic. I miss the days when he worked with good composers like Harry Gregson-Williams and Norihiko Hibino. Ludvig Forssell's score never did it for me, even on MGSV.

i've heard death stranding be referred to as a walking simulator on /v/ since its inception, and it's very clear that very few people here have ever played these games to any extent
walking is probably the method of transportation you use least overall

I genuinely wish they put all their focus into traversal. Walking, running, shifting balance, managing weight isn't enough. Let us have climbing, proper swimming, crawling through caves. Drop the combat and vehicles, go all in with getting from A to B but keep something like BT zones.

I thought the first game had a decent licensed soundtrack that usually played at the right time and sometimes felt quite poignant. In Death Stranding 2 so far every single track has fallen flat for me. And he basically just plays then whatever, regardless of context. Problem is that DS2 just feels like the game is going through the motions but without any of the intrigue or atmosphere of lonesomeness that the first game had (he constantly goes back to the ship and has his crew to hang out with and also Dollman), so the music never hits. Also even though Low Roar was basically the same genre as a lot of the music in here, the music just feels incredibly generic and bland for the most part. Also the Caroline Polachek song featured on this ost might be literally her worst song.

The only traversal tools are ladders and climbing anchor. They added no new tools for traversal in the sequel. Also the terrain is too flat in 2 and barely ever requires you to actually use tools to get where youre going

yea, I always defended death stranding 1 when someone called it a walking sim because walking sim is a derogatory term for games where you literally just press forward the whole time. death stranding 1 wasn't hard, but for the most part you had to be mindful of your steps. in death stranding 2 literally the only obstacles are rivers, everything else is a non issue. and the map is so fucking vehicle centric, whereas in DS1 you pretty much couldn't get to weather station with a vehicle (unless you went from the top of the mountain) and it was deliberately done that way. Kojima pussied out and made his game's core mechanics meaningless with so-called QoL in Death Stranding 2. I'm also 20h in and the story has been a complete nothing burger so far making me wonder why this game even exists

You cannot simply hold L2 and R2 to stay balanced unless you're carrying a comically small amount of stuff. You have to alternate between the two and you'll go faster if you don't hold the triggers.

That was "fixed" in the Director's Cut where they added a road right next to it. Kojima gave up on his hiking simulator vision almost immediately after DS1's release. Everything added in the Director's Cut was to make traversal easier, like you can take floating carriers on ziplines and have a jet pack that negates all chance of falling to your death.
It's no wonder that he took things even further in the sequel with easier to use vehicles that conquer all terrains and a map designed around vehicle use.

oh really, well that pretty much settles it. i don't know why he would completely pussy out on the gameplay premise and then make a sequel that pretends to have the same meat and bones as the first game anyway. seems like he's just playing himself.

that is true, and that was also what "ruined" the game for me. now granted, I did not know it was going to be this way when I started setting up my zip lines, the process of planning out a zipline network was quite fun, only after I had set it up did I really understand that I had basically deleted all gameplay from the game by doing so.

but ziplines also felt strong in the first game because the game world itself wasn't so convenient. in death strandin 2 it feels like the world was built for Sam's convenience from the getgo. this probably makes ziplines a bit weaker, but it's a solution
