There is no point using anything bigger than 24" for desktop PC gaming.

I've tried 27" 1440p multiple times. I'm even on one RIGHT NOW because I wanted to try it out again. Otherwise it just dusts inside a box. And surprise surprise it just makes everything I do slower. In games and on desktop.

I open 4chan and more than half the page is just empty white background. Same with Google. On Twitch all the streams look worse than usual because my desktop and text is so sharp, 720p streams might aswell be unwatchable. The screen is so big that the video is huge compared to the chat, even without theater mode. More adventuring with your eyes and mouse, harder to make fast clicks.

And in games I need 50% more power (not a problem for me, but still) and I register less information because my vision can cover less of the screen. Objects seem faster because they are bigger. HUD in some games just feels like it's assaulting my face.

Just think how far we sit from a TV. Think of the recommended viewing distances. Even when compared to a movie theater the size of the monitor on your desk is fucking huge because, well, it's on your desk.

I jumped from 1080p to 1440p to 4k in the last year. Just wanted to tell you guys not to bother with 1440p. Either stay on your 1080p for now or get a 4k monitor. 1440p's visual upgrade over 1080p is so small you'll get used to it within days.
>inb4 too expensive
This used to be a valid complaint back when high refresh rate higher resolutions monitors were super expensive, like back when 1440p 144hz IPS monitors cost north of 500 bucks. But now you can get 4K 160hz IPS monitors starting from 300 bucks. Literally just don't buy cigarettes or junk food for a while and you'll get the money.

Fuck do you mean it's a small upgrade
A 4K monitor increases requirements, which makes your point of 4k panels being cheap irrelevant, and needs more upscaling nonsense. All you get from it is nicer looking fonts. The better upgrade is panel technology and refresh rate, and at 27'' 1440p is just as fine as it needs to be.
Another cool thing about 1440p: it's exactly 480p. Old shit looks gorgeous because integer scaling is exactly 3 times that.

Nintendo knows this, whuch is why the switch 2 only goes that far.
Sony and MS knows this which is why ps5 and SeX games run mostly at that.

I use a Samsung Odyssey G70B, a fucking "smart" monitor. All I wanted was a 4K 144Hz monitor, and this is just that.
Problem is the "smart" functionality basically means it's a TV, it came with a remote and everything. And I have an actual Samsung smart TV (a Q90A) in the same room.
Now my monitor and TV share the same IR signals, so the TV remote also affects the monitor. Try to turn on the TV? The monitor gets turned off.
The solution was to cover the monitor IR sensor with black tape. But still, never fucking again.

You don't need xx90 cards to use a 4k display. You're not just playing games that are releasing in the future, you're playing games that released in the last few decades. Something like an RTX4070 can run games from the 2010s at 4k no problem.

I have endless fuck-you money and I have a few 4k OLEDs around the house. OLED is really cool and all other displays seem gray and dull in comparison now, but you have to adapt your environment to make them look good. So no excessive light in the room or else the screen turns magenta, nothing too shiny in front of the screen or else it reflects really obviously off the glossy surface, no leaving the display on when you're not using it, and so on.
This is why my main laptop is still IPS, when you carry your screen around for work and travel you can't control your environment this so so it's better to have a screen that just werks in bright rooms and regardless of FPS.

As for vidya, now every sub-4k resolution seems awful to me. I'm not tech literate enough to explain but it's like sub-4k resolution makes everything that isn't immediately close to the camera seem so unstable. Like you can see the pixels crawling and realigning as you move the camera or move your character. With 4k the foreground is just stable and always looks the way it should regardless of your angle or movement.

I'm thinking about buying a 32'‘ 4K monitor with good image quality for work, but my 27’' 1440p is good for gaming and at the same time has excellent color accuracy. So I'm in this dilemma: on the one hand, I'd like something even better for work, but the chances of me worsening my gaming experience are very high. Unless I buy a 4K monitor that is good for both work and gaming, which would make the price astronomical...

And enemy movement up close is harder to keep track off because everything is bigger.

Even for "spotting distant enemies" lower resolution is actually better. This is very easy to demonstrate in Apex Legends. On 1080p a distant enemy will stick out as a sharp collection of pixels. On higher res the enemy silhouette will become smoother and the pixels will not stick out sharp. The effect happens at all ranges but is most noticeable over large distances.

4k doesn't make everything bigger. Screen size does. You can play 480p on a giant screen. As for enemies showing up better in 1080p, that's patently untrue. When you're dealing with 1/4 the pixels, some objects/enemies literally disappear.

compared to the qdoleds the brightness and color volume will be strictly worse
the 480hz 1080p mode how good it is is entirely dependent on how asrock has implemented it, see the comparison of how Asus vs LG implemented it, Asus did a way better job and LG botched it, in the same monitors using the same panel
Not sure how else Asrocks firmware/osd is if they botched it furthter
but Asus version of this panel is strictly better than LG, not sure where Asrock fits in this list
I have not researched it so I have no idea
if you don't want the 480hz dual mode you can buy a 4k qdoled instead, if you want the 480hz mode more you can buy 1440p panels instead

4k is 3840x2160, which is EXACTLY twice the number of pixels per axis of 1080p (1920x1080).
ALL 4k screens should just draw 1080p by just drawing every pixel of 1080p with 2x2 squares of the same color, but they don't, they do the "ACTIVATE THE BILINEAR SHIT" shit, and blur everything and looks like a N64 crap, because the N64 also does bilinear filtering to the final output because SGI was retarded.
