BOTW just became a tedious checklist of things to do. it has zero replayability

I'm replaying BOTW now. Its pretty cool. I got the second shrine in Kakariko right away, I'm at the tech lab now and then I'm gonna go straight behind death mountain to the korok forest because I have a fuckload of korok seeds for only having been to three sections of map. I have two stamina wheels and 5 hearts. All of my weapons are pretty strong for how early I am. I havent done anything else. Point being if you already know how the game works you can get a lot out of it earlier.

The only part of it that ever feels like a chore for me is if you run low on arrows going to all of the horse stables, or getting the wood for tarey town which you can do in small bursts with bombs.

That's exactly how I felt whenI beat Ganon in BOTW. I had a great time with the game, but I just didn't see a reason to go back and TOTK didn't pull me in either

I thought I wouldn't like BotW upon replay but it's actually still a lot of fun. I just skip a lot more of the content (shrines and most korok seeds)

Literally everything about BotW is a chore. You can only really explore if you have enough stamina, which means you're going to have to be searching for shrines for hours on end instead of actually playing the game you paid for. Add to that all the fucking walking and having to fight with twigs because a game from 2017 couldn't bother to include a repair system, and you realize that most of the game is doing the unfun shit. Nintendo tried to dial that up for TotK and that game got forgotten harder and faster than any other Zelda game in history. At least Odyssey is generally fun, it's only the completion run that's annoying.

BOTW is awesome the first time but once you realize the only real things out there are korok seeds and repetitive shrines, it just becomes a slog. I'm already tired of the formula and would rather go back to a traditional Zelda game, but that won't happen because BOTW and TOTK sold like hot cakes. What a shame.

Currently replaying TotK on Switch 2. It's amazing.

Odyssey was fine but I stopped after Darker Side. I burned out on BotW around the 25 hour mark and just wanted it to be over from there. I'd be surprised if I did half of either game's overall content.

I wouldn't call them incredible and I'll definitely not play them again

I don't understand why people like Mario Oddyssey so much, it feels pretty unimaginative compared to Mario 3D World. I felt like with Oddyssey they run out of ideas, in the beginning they tried to be creative with hat world and ice desert but then they were like uhhhh I don't know flower garden with rusty scaffolding? Fuck it, let's just make another water world.

BOTW was okayish but also very ugly. They could at least get rid of that desaturation filter

I just went back to odyssey after I 100% it so many years ago to check out the switch 2 patch. Looks great and I was having a great time again. I couldn’t see myself going back to botw though. I still haven’t even beaten totk. I get overwhelmed every time there’s too much shit to do.

Nintendo's new MO when it comes to game design is to give you lots and lots of tools and absolutely fucking NOTHING to use them on.
Tears of the Kingdom was a huge disappointment because of this. The best parts of Breath of the Wild were anything similar to Eventide Island where you really had to be creative and improvise, and Nintendo apparently doesn't want to provide any content like that at all.
