Shinigami eyes are kind of a terrible deal though.

They only work if you are confident you will die of old age but spend 90% of your life in jail. Because then they give you a chance of living e.g. ~40 years in freedom rather than 5 years in freedom and 75 in jail.

However, if you are already destined to die young, the eyes make you die even earlier.

So let's imagine that Light's fate was to be killed by someone. If he accepted the eyes he would only die sooner.

This is interesting because Light's dad died like 4 days after accepting the eyes, which means he would have died 8 days later without the eyes anyway.

Anyway, Light had considered accepting the eyes several times. He just didn't want to get them without a necessity. And he never needed the eyes ever since he met Misa, and then Mikami, and then Takada.

It definitely reflects murder. That is Misa's entire backstory. A shinigami had fallen in love with her. One day he kept staring at her, Rem asked him what was up, he said he was sad because Misa was going to die that day but he had no idea how or why, since she was young and healthy. They started watching her together. She gets assaulted on the streets and realize that she is going to get murdered. The shinigami kills her killer and extends her life.

An interesting fact here is that if all L intended was to arrest Misa, Rem wouldn't have died by killing him. It seems like Misa would get the death penalty upon being arrested. L did say that he thought the United Nations would unofficially execute Kira if they caught him, probably ask the task force to do it themselves even.

First of all it is impossible to kill Ryuk. Shinigami can extend their lifepsan by killing humans. If they know they are going to die tomorrow, they can just kill a couple people and guarantee they will live for thousands of years.

Second of all how the fuck is Ryuk an enemy? Did you even read the manga? Ryuk is true neutral unless you do something that makes him unable toe at apples, then he LIGHTLY nudges Light into killing you.

Anon the entire point of the mechanic is that it requires the intent of increasing someone's lifespan.

The shinigami king is omniscient and knows why you write every name and who you intend to kill, that's how the death note works. If he knows you are killing someone with the intent of saving someone else, you're toast. If you kill someone and it incidentally increases other people's lifespan without that being your intention, you're good.

This is why shinigami don't focus on killing "bad people" like criminals or terrorists. They don't want to risk dying because of the shinigami king thinking they were trying to help humans.

I don't think you realize how polarizing Kira is. There are already tons of celebrities against Kira, and also tons supporting him. This is like saying Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift supporting Kamala would have put a big dent on Trump's campaign. It did not, some things are bigger than celebrities.

Being smart doesn't mean jumping to the right conclusion. Even if he deduces that there is a time loop, he only has 22 minutes to figure out how to stop it, and he can't read nomai.

Also, how would he actually disable the ash twin project? It's in space, and he'd have to do it without outer wilds guy figuring out what he's trying, or killing him. Any attempt to shut down ash twin if it fails will give Kira away in the next loop.

He could pull the Lind L Tailor trick or a similar cheap shot as many times as he wants, and risk his life doing it. He could find Kira in only a dozen resets that way if he does a binary search.
