A 6/10 game that everyone rates positively will be "overwhelmingly positive" but a 9/10 game that has more negative reviews over small details might be very or mostly positive. This doesn't count the constant reviewbombing either.
It's better to read the actual comments, positive and negative, and then read / watch some reviews online from various sources. I'd avoid shit like IGN for obvious reason, but typically you can find out what a game is like through gameplay and some guy talking about it to determine if it's good or not, or ask your friends if they played it.
At a certain point if a game is cheap enough I'll just buy it if it seems cool. I'm not doing intense research on a game that's cheaper than pocket change.
