It's my favorite Mario Kart since Double Dash, I was worried that it would be worse than 8 because of the open world shit but it works very well and I can't see how they can release another Mario Kart with out it, going forward. Knockout Tour is fantastic, I wasn't expecting this to be all that fun. The only problem is that that they have those intermission tracks in Grand Prix in Online, they don't show up that often but I see why people would prefer doing the 3 laps, they really should have a separate matchmaking mode for it, it can handle having 3 hoppers total. But I don't mind playing with /v/ to get my 3 lap grand prix fix, at least at the moment.

I think they will do something the same with smash bro's, where the last one was so "end game" for the series that the only way to make a new one is changing it up a lot

Ironically, the people saying to return to MK8 if you don't like intermissions don't realize the problem with them is the exact same problem MK8 has most of the time. Want to do a cool cut? Mushrooms only, fuck you. It's a shame because the elements to be the best Mario Kart are there and sometimes it gives you the feeling it's the best. The highs are really high, but the lows can be pretty low.

It would suck if there was no reason to never not take a certain cut. Cuts requiring mushrooms ensures how you go about the track changes based on what you currently have to work with.

The problem is that for intermissions, you only ever get the choice to do mushroom cuts. There is very little reason to jump around and use the mechanics the game gives you. In a real race, there's also reasons not to do a cut, such as crowding, risk or because you miss out on an item. That consideration doesn't exist on intermissions because you need mushrooms to do anything.

The problem with intermissions is they're so generous with shortcuts you can hold onto a last place with a last place item and then use it to get to 1st at the end. Most 8 deluxe tracks aren't that generous with shortcuts and even then World makes it particularly bad because you don't even have to worry about the lightning taking your items when holding last.
