Is the switch really worth hacking? Why isn't it as easy as the 3ds/Wii/PSP?

There's literally no reason why not at this point.

If you can do it, do it. Get a Switch 2 for online.

be more specific. you seemed confused.

if all you want to do is illegal pirate, you just buy a flashcart like r4/migswitch. no special hacks needed.

if you want to actually run legal homebrew then you need to jailbreak the thing. that's different.

What are you talking about lad, it literally takes 5 minutes of downloading a folder and transfering it to your switch's SD card to hack it
Sure it's a soft mod but it's easy to get around by just leaving it docked in sleep mode

you have to be really careful when setting up emunand otherwise its fine you can't play online with other people anymore like you could back in the 3ds days (nvidia hardware fault aside) they stepped up their anti piracy measures a lot and even moreso with the Switch 2. It gets annoying with the jig and rcm every time but if you dont know/want to solder a picofly chip you can buy ones with the chip already soldered in to it on aliexpress iirc goes for the same a new switch would or i think even less now especially the lite models though we're kind of nearing the end of major switch 1 releases i think all that's left is Prime 4, Tomodachi Life and Pokemon ZA

I have a 2017 model and I was considering doing it just for the sake of transferring modded saves to my Switch 2 but then again I'd have to actually buy Switch 1 and I am enjoying Switch games emulated at 4K on my 4090 PC. I wish there was an easy way to transfer saves from emulator on PC to the Switch 2 for on the go.

reminder not using trannyback netcode is objectively a good thing
most fighting games moving to it is almost the sole reason why you never hear of fighting games anymore aside from the 2D DBZ ones, and even that's just off spic and indian hype
even guilty gear just fizzled out in a wet fart despite the massive westoid pandering the series had and the momentum it was picking up with strive

>Sure it's a soft mod
That only works if you have a modchip.
Even the ones that can technically be softmodded have a process involving constantly injecting a payload through the usb c connector from your compooter every single time you turn the bloody thing on.
Yes, it's made somewhat easier by external USB C devices to inject the payload manually, but it's no less obnoxious.

Then hack it faggot, a hacked switch is insanely useful due to how easy it is to pirate games via tinfoil shops and there's also a shitton of cool game mods.
You should probably format your shit first since who knows whether or not that might trigger a switch 2 ban due to it still being linked to your account. Making an emuNAND after a system format will make you 100% ban proof.

I think that the real issue with the Switch as a hacked system is that... Shit like the deck exists and genuinely does everything you'd want out of a hacked switch (Better performance, hacks, emulation, custom themes, homebrew) for round the same price with little to no setup besides just dowloading emudeck

for first party bing bing wahoo? nearly flawless if a bit unoptimized sometimes
for anything else? good fucking luck, you may either get a flawless game, just some minor bugs, have it constantly crash, likely killing your video driver with it and forcing a full PC reboot, or simply have it not boot at all
it doesn't help second party games (FE and xenoblade specifically) are also under that "it may work perfectly, it may be fucked" coin toss

The goydeck has always online DRM, already making it inherently inferior to a switch.
And if switch emulation is already spotty on PC, on a goydeck have fun having the device sound and feel like a jet engine trying to run basic bing bing wahoo.

Yeah I just got a switch 2 and did the system transfer thing, and now all my downloaded games are tied to the 2 and removed from the 1, so there's no point in ever going back to use it for anything but piracy. Even if I wanted to use my switch 1 again, maybe for the better battery life, it would be a huge headache telling it "game belongs here now" for everything I touch, potentially in a place with no wifi

If you do a system reset it unlinks from your nintendo account and have to set up everything as if it was right out of the box.
If you merely set up an offline user with no nintendo account, then immediately just boot into emummc, and block the nintendo servers through 90dns, you can use any of the tinfoil shops without problem.

I almost hacked mine with a modchip. The guy was only charging $80. But I read a little more and it seems that if the battery dies, you have to redo the jailbreak, and that was enough for me to give up on the idea. I'll play my Switch 1 until I finish my backlog and then just sell it or something. If I want an open handheld later on, I'll buy one of those portable PCs.

Beyond free Eshop games, it's not worth it. It's pretty disappointed compared to the 3ds and Wii. The best things I've done with my modded Switch is dumping anime to watch locally offline either on the TV or in tabletop mode. If you want a handheld to play older games on just get a retroid pocket 5 or whatever, at least that can run PS2 games unlike the Switch, which struggles with Dreamcast.
