We legit felt things in our stomach consooming this kind of content back then. I remember shaking with adrenaline on my first clicker backpedaller pvp encounter.

I feel bad for kids and people under 20 / early 20s, really.

Another thing was the quality jumps from graphics in the gens. PS1 to PS2 and then the PC upgrade to 1-2gb VRM + games.

>PS1 to PS2 and then the PC upgrade to 1-2gb VRM + games.
24yo scumfuck zoomer here. my progression was ds>wii>x360>xone>pc. it was rapid, about as much as ps1 through maybe ps4 for example, but god damn. looking back through the archives of how people reacted to the earlier generations, and having played a lot of older consoles myself both as a kid and later in life, that must have been something else. i think the only leap even close to what you guys experienced, and it's really not even that comparable, is the progression of VR. valid gripes over game selection and devs aside, the jump from massive powered contraption that requires HDMI to standalone $300 headset that's infinitely better has been quite something to behold. yeah, it's mostly new implementations of existing tech, but that can be said for a lot in gaming.

Very based take. I remember gaming during from the late 80as to the mid 2000s. Every single year was fucking HUGE, huge technological improvements, huge graphical improvements, huge fucking games released each year. I also really liked the internet spreading and becoming an actually usable thing from a glorified Usenet chatroom, although in hindsight I wished on a monkeys paw. Gaming these day is just an algorithm slop too of endless, samey-looking garbage and shit like league of legends, WoW and fortnite just never dying for decades.

We will never have genre-defining shit like playing Doom for the first time or Half-Life or the sheer FREEDOM of GTA 3

Gaming 25 years ago felt a lot more personal that's for sure. It was literally nerds making games for other nerds and we only knew about it. Once corpo rats and other faggots smelled the money it was over.

It was exactly this bad if not worse. Nerds had ZERO ability to make anything as gaming was mostly on consoles and very few if any had the devkits and the ability to make bootleg cartridges. The "creative control" and "experimentation" was making games on C64 at best, with no way to distribute it beyond a few floppies to your friends.

The comparison to modern day ability to make games and distribute them is laughable.

Yes but the pendulum had swung for a bit. You are talking about the 80s and consoles, and I'm talking about the 90s and PC when things were better for a bit, and then the 2000s happened.

The 90s weren't any different. Sure, you had your shovelware on PC but being an "indie developer" was not really a thing until the mid 2000s.

Reign of Chaos is true ludo-kino minus maybe a third of the Scourge campaign (2 of the elves missions and 1 before that really fucking drag, especially if you're playing on hard because you can't airdrop your heroes to steal all the keys with minimal fighting). Night elf campaign would also be mid story-wise (it's just about getting all your units), but it ends with one of literally the best and virtually unreplicated defense RTS missions ever made.

Orc campaign tutorial/demo (with all 5 missions): 8/10
Human Campaign: 9/10
Undead: 6/10 until you get to Elf Mission 3, then it's a 7 or 8 the rest of the way.
Orcs again: 8/10 (Fel orc mission was a 10)
Night Elves: 8 /10 (Last mission a 10)
Would give the entire campaign experience a 9 with how many times I've come back to it. I think it's a 10 if you play on Normal and you still get a challenge out of it.

TFT was maybe 7 at best for the campaign.
Night elves was not great, but it was one of the longest and varied, love Miev. 7/10

TFT's blood elf campaign just ended too soon, feels unfinished, and just started to get good with only TWO missions that let you build naga and elves. 7/10, but with the length, it's a 6.

The last Scourge campaign mission was a tedious slog, but satisfying to beat, especially on hard. Sylvanas' missions were actually kinda better? 7/10.

Orc RPG campaign was either the dopest shit ever (as a kid) or a completely consequence-free repetitive slog, I'm leading in between both as I replay it. 6/10

Only reason people loved TFT was Competitive and Custom games. I wasted so many hours playing Undead Assault II and Azeroth Wars LR.

I really liked the feeling of the early undead missions, with the elves and a lot of ghouls in the dark forest, and the first 2 missions had the funny easter eggs

last TFT mission could be cheesed in the funniest way by a shade surround
