People are starting to catch on that digital games are a scam and shouldn't cost as much as they do
>The Dutch consumer group Stichting Massaschade & Consument (Mass Damage & Consumer Foundation) has filed a collective lawsuit against Sony, claiming that the console manufacturer has been exploiting its dominant position in the market.
>The group maintains that at least 1.7 million PlayStation owners in the Netherlands are paying too much for digital games on Sony's console.
>Research quoted by the foundation found that, on average, consumers pay 47% more for digital games than for physical ones, and the foundation's chair, Lucia Melcherts, says that people are being "pushed towards 'digital-only' consoles since the latest PS5 generation"

the issue is that sales are not global. they like to region lock them. when a steam sale happens anyone can buy. but when a psn sale happens it may happen for JP but not EU.

Weird spammer. Just post it on reddit so it will stay up longer. Then you don't need to make this thread again and again

Probably based on PS Store being the only place you can buy digital (i.e. no digital codes at physical retail) vs retailers dropping prices on new physical games

There is no reason why digital content should ever be more expensive than a physical copy. The prices on the Microsoft store are a complete joke and it's about time someone did something about it.

I hate sony, but what's the issue here? Different stores sell things at whatever price they think will make them the most money. Is there some kind of limit to how much profit you can make in the netherlands?

Indeed. This should be illegal.

The PS store is the only place to buy digital.
There'd be no problem if you could go to a retailer to buy a digital code (at a discount if the store so chose to)

Good, I hope they remove all the AI slop games in the process too. Nintendo's eshop suffers from the same cancer.

You understand that physical has constant sales happening because of B&Ms needing shelf space or because warehouses need to clear out their storage space, right? It's why console is incredible if you are a frugal gamer because unless you are willing to jump into the realm of grey market key resellers on PC you aren't getting price drops at the speed physical games drop or for the price console games drop, in addition to the fact you physically own the copies that you can then resell later on if you feel like it. You don't need to cherrypick used copies or anything to get the prices they're talking about, you can just look up Amazon or your local B&M stores and see how quickly they drop in price.

Sekiro and RDR2 are both easy examples to point to where the physical copies dropped in price on consoles in a few months and stayed floating around those sale prices consistently whereas on PC they're primarily full price because you can only find them in certain storefronts outside of sales with maybe a $5 discount on places like Fanatical or GMG if you don't want to deal with grey market resellers.

>Steam
Not the only digital store on PC and also regularly shits out 90% discounts like every other week. Timmy's lies about Steam being a monopoly have always been a farce, people willingly choose Steam because of what Valve offers to customers.
>Xbox
Many games you buy on the Xbox store gives you both the PC and console version, something that's never been offered by Playstation. Xbox also saved its own ass from this whole thing because they also have the cloud gaming app (no game pass required) and the upcoming ROG Xbox, so Microcock can argue that Xbox isn't actually tied down to any one platform.
>Nintendo
None of the Switch models are digital-only, and because the Switch is region free nothing is stopping you from buying a used game cart off of Amazon other than the high chance of being sent a shitty PAL version instead of the US version. Part of the reason why Switch 2 is using that game key card bullshit is to comply with EU laws like this, so that instead of third parties cheaping out with a code-in-a-box like they've been doing so far there's still something physical that can be traded or transferred.
