Why aren't online games as fun as they used to be?

I played pic related at a friends this weekend and it was so much fun. Why aren't modern games this fun?

The day easy private server hosting + modding disappeared from majority of online games, the soul died.

...which is why I am 100% a PC only gamer these days, and games like Deep Rock Galactic deserve more recognition.

Custom and private servers are gone. Couch coop and LAN parties are gone. Matchmaking algorithms are designed to keep players from seeing the same people ever again. The community is what makes online games fun, otherwise you might as well play with bots. Reminds me of coping when the Killzone 2 servers were killed, so I tried desperately to have fun playing with the bots.

DRG not only has all the features I listed, but also packs some easy 2000+ hours worth of "content", and it's plain FUN TO PLAY.
And that's exactly what is missing from majority of modern (post-2006) games: they are not FUN to play, period. They are always some grindan skinnerbox traps, made for trophy whores - fags like (You) who count "muh content" bibs and bobs, and don't ever consider "do I actually wanna go and play this with friends?".

Also, calling a fucking LucasArts game a "random license game" just underlines how utterly idiotic, underage waste of cum you are.

There's zero "life service" features in DRG. It's all 100% in-game, zero P2W, and no "master servers" that can go down either.
