CRTs don't scare me but they remind me of my crippling back pain. I got like 15 stacked up in my mom's room where she used to sleep since she banned me from getting rid of *any* TVs. This is because she grew up poor. So now she's dead and I got more TVs than living family members. I should open a museum.

My oldest is a ghetto RCA from the 40s that looks like the one Rolf had in Ed, Edd and Eddy. It has five (5!) channels selectable on a dial and consumes more power than my die press. It consumes more power searching for digital TV channels (using an Obama DTV box) than what my Tesla uses on a quarter mile run. It is black and white and I have my xbox (original) hooked up to it. Games in black and white is shitty but it's how I grew up so I'm used to it.

estate sales
craigslist
facebook marketplace

Goodwill categorically refuses to resell them now, if it goes to Goodwill it will end up recycled because the government pays them for each pre-digital TV that doesn't have digital energy management controls. And ebay is all scalpers. The best places are still estate sales where a very exhausted, exasperated and desperate family will pay you to take their TVs because it's $15-45 per unit for a legal clean disposal. It's like disposing of a mattress, used oil or smoke detectors.

Mom would not allow me to just buy her a new TV. So when she passed 10+ years ago I was ok that 32 inch CRT has to go. If I had not been at my peak gym bro sort of level at the time I doubt I could have got it out of the house to the god damn street.
just massive dead weight with no way to grab it. I only had to pick it up off a stand and over to a rolling cart on the back porch, then push it to the street for clean up day pick up. Still was a small war of man vs tech. The old pos dish washer was easily 1/10th the work..
Out of all the tech that has come and gone the one I don't miss at all is the CRT TV sets and PC monitors.

Think of it this way: if you have a game with 1080p textures do you think you could make out all the detail of them if you set your render resolution to 240p? Iโ€™m not saying emulators add more detail to the textures Iโ€™m saying a higher resolution can reveal more of the detail that was already there. And this is a fact so you just look dumb arguing it, thereโ€™s been countless threads on /v/ showcasing this and YouTube videos, or you could just try it yourself. Like fuck even the DS has games that reveal tons of detail at a higher resolution

you're on so much cope, i've been playing on top of the line crt monitors for pc games since 2012, was on blurbusters before they were releasing 120hz TN panels pretty much.

the difference is insane, the only reason you're saying otherwise is you haven't experienced it.

i used to keep up with invite level cs players after only playing the game for about a year and i would say it was strictly my reaction time + i was on a crt

All i want is a CRT monitor that is useful for gaming in the modern age due to motion clarity, or more specifically how they help your eyes track that alien UFO on the blur busters test. And the Sony GDM-FW900 is far too expensive. These kinds of TVs are a waste of space unless used for an arcade MAME cabinet i suppose. I'm not particularly all that interested of whether you think the scanlines and even screen defects make pixelshit look better. It's the actual clarity in motion which is hard to replace.

There wasn't much room for improvement by the end of it's run. The Sony line of Trinitron CRT monitors where all peak CRT. Think of it like microwaves now. Other than the Inverter versions that let you run a true lower power vs just pulse the high power there isn't really anywhere else to go with Microwave tech. It's maxed out.

I'm 35 now, almost 36, you clearly haven't lived around CRTs. Just the memory of having to move one yourself, feeling the bottom edges cut into your hand as you pray to god that you don't trip on the power cord that slipped free from your tired hands, that alone should make you say "fuck CRT".
In my case it was more me carrying it and younger relatives kept on running up to me asking questions or pretending to trip me.
Pros:
>makes retro games look fucking great
>low latency by default
>hard glass face (easy to clean too)
>great blacks

Cons:
>uses a fuckload more power than modern screens
>weighs a lot, meaning you can't really just put it anywhere
>is thick depth-wise, meaning you can't really just put it anywhere
>maxes out at 1080i, the only screens that go higher have a worse refresh rate / flickering issue, or just fake it because "pixels" are just a suggestion for CRTs
>practically goes exponential in weight and size based on how big the screen is, which makes it even harder to put in your house or actually set anywhere because everything's cramped and/or made of particleboard these days
>fuckload of pixel bleed and other technical issues I don't remember the name of
>can't have anything magnetic nearby, including speakers
>degausser quality varies wildly
>cropped edges by design
>no modern connections unless using an adapter or hacking your shit together yourself
>costs a ton, relatively, unless you get lucky at a thrift store or find one used online
>resolution and refresh rate are inversely proportional, and you NEED a high refresh rate or you get nasty-ass flicker effects
>wide-ass bezels
>implodes into a fuckload of tiny glass shards if it ever breaks
And in 202X, everything modern that isn't shit-tier has better specs across the board than anything CRT ever offered.

Plasmas were supposed to be the innovation of CRT tech. Except they just ended up being a downgrade as far as motion clarity and response times were concerned. But they improved it in other areas. But really the whole responsiveness of CRTs is the only reason some of us are looking back at this old display tech like it still has a real place in the market.

They "work" but they display signs of aging like poor or missing colors, limited brightness, bad geometry, or failing speakers.
It's not healthy for electronics to sit around unused for long periods of time. The components inside them are more likely to fail when you start pumping electricity through them after not being used for decades.
I've had 4 CRTs fail between me and my boomer family members who refused to upgrade until absolutely necessary. They're not eternal and are reaching their natural limit.

I could ask you the same question. CRTs don't add frames and make the animation smoother. Even when we were using CRTs heavily, higher framerates were sought. You'd drop down to lower resolutions for 100fps in a lot of cases. You're a zoomer who bought a cheap CRT (or a TV, same thing) and thinks 60Hz is all people played at.
60Hz is also flickervision at high resolutions, and painful to use.

I used to be in that craze, but CRTs just look worse than modern HDTVs. The scanlines hide details. CRTs only had notably better color when compared to earlier LCDs. You can always just up the saturation to your liking, btw.

CRTranny psychosis aside, there is an argument to be made for filters and real CRTs for 2d games. The art was designed to have the jagged edges smoothed. But that's where my agreement with them ends. CRTrannies swear 3D games are meant to be played at 480p60 or worse, and that 3D has a native resolution.
