Yeah but there’s something kinda comfy about the fuzz. Old CRTs had their own vibe, like how the scanlines and blur actually helped hide jank textures and made PS1 games look way better than they do now in HD. Everything being a bit smeared together gave it this dreamlike look. Not saying I’d go back, but I get the nostalgia.

CRTs pair great with low poly visuals for the reasons you listed. Early 3D games already asked you to fill in the blanks on a lot of details, and the CRTs helped with that feeling.
The downsides of course is they were giant clunky pieces of shit, and have shot in price exponentially since nobody makes them anymore.

A lot of people split the 2D and 3D stuff into 'classic' and 'modern' sonic, but personally I feel like 'classic' sonic ends at SA2. With everything afterwards, even new 2D titles, being modern sonic.
