Stop Killing Games
We need to spread the word in countries where ESL is especially bad.
There's a useful site where you can find the top gaming YTers in your country.

https://hypeauditor.com/top-youtube-video-games/

If you're gay you can also post it on any subreddit or discord channel you frequent.

This is how I describe the initiative if you need help: It's a European citizens' initiative that pushes for laws to stop video games from becoming unplayable when companies shut down their servers. It focuses on making sure people can still play the games they bought, even after official support ends. The goal is to require companies to add offline options or let players run their own servers so the games don’t disappear forever.

I'm pretty optimistic right now since we gained like 150k votes in the last week.

The threshold isn't really relevant anymore. We just need to pass the 1 million mark.
The map is still useful because low voter participation can indicate low hanging fruits.
Although part of that is probably due to higher political apathy in those countries.

>>714071751
>>714071697 (OP)
The country thresholds don't matter anymore, we just needed 7 countries to surpass it, and we have more then that

all that matters is the total 1 million signature threshold (plus some extra to make up for signatures that have errors)

That said trying to advertise in languages/countries that have a lower adoption rate is still likely to yield more new signatures then doing so in english or places that have a high sign rate already, so graphs like this still matter

The problem with this movement is its supporters consider video games art. A book, a painting or a film reel being burned purely for profit's sake, depriving our descendants of it is patently bad.
But video games aren't art. They're toys. The Crew isn't the fucking Iliad. It will never be studied in university as an artwork. It will never inspire other great works.
The Crew is some small wooden horse a Greek boy was playing with while Homer wrote the Iliad, and was forgotten in a generation.
I can understand being sentimentally attached to your toys from when you were a kid, but that doesn't mean kids from future generations will want to play with your decrepit anachronistic relic. New toys will be made for new generations of kids.
Also, it's pointless to make this a petition that requires ID. If you have ID you're an adult, and by the time games developed under the new law released, you'd be too old to play video games. You're basically just voting to get the younger generations to be more like you.
Have you stopped to consider that they like FOMO-driven live service games the same way you liked your CS 1.6 dedicated servers?

>The problem with this movement is its supporters consider video games art.
I don't or at least don't think it's relevant. I think some of these business practices already break existing laws in spirit.
If you sell a game, you sell a game. The buyer has to own the game in perpetuity.
If you practically sell a subscription, you should have to label it a subscription with a set timeframe.
You shouldn't be able to sell a game and retroactively destroy it at an arbitrary time.
This is a fundamental issue about property and ownership.

new laws wouldn't be retroactive, they'd only affect future games

they absolutely could build things from the ground up with an end of life plan in mind, whether that's releasing a end-user friendly server hosting services or a singleplayer offline mode

What you mean by "develop game around online"? I´m not trying to be obtuse, just that you don´t give much to work with to discuss the issue. If you talk about games with centralized server (like, say, Overwatch): just release the server software. This is not difficult nor anything new. Fucking Minecraft has server-side soft downloadable to anyone who wants it. If you mean a MMO-like game such as WoW where the host handles tons of interactions per minute, well, there´s reverse-engineered private servers so obviously that isn´t too difficult to implement either. If you mean something else, please elaborate.

Except it is in this day and age where things like server software aren't custom built for each game. Also, you need to understand that back in our day no one forced developers to hand over their property, they gave it of their own volition. No one should be forced to give up their property and that's the crux of this issue.
