GX is one of my favourites. Outside of that I enjoyed Burnout and the criterion NFS games and some extreme sports ones like SSX but that whole era of racing felt like it vanished.
FAST racing and GRIP was alright.
I generally prefer not to play kart racers with random items..
the DIRT series and Forza horizon was kind of interesting but got old quickly.
I meant to get wreckfest at some point but never did.
I hate hyper realistic simulation games.

GX is the Melee of racing games. It's janky, it's broken, it's full of semi-unintended stuff- as in, either intended mechanic pushed way beyond intended power (like snaking), or unintended mechanic embraced and kept in the game (like shift boosting)- and that's what makes it good. "Naive" FZGX is actually kinda meh, there are better racing games than it if you don't go into the wacky stuff, just like there are better platform fighters than Melee if you don't engage with its systems.

to make the game easier you either cheat with a custom vehicle, or you use captain falcon max speed and you opposite trigger before turning, then turn + trigger in the direction youre going

turn left = R, left + L

these fast turns dont lose speed and will carry through the whole game. but the story mode in very hard, even some in hard, is pretty tough and will require some tryharding

I have no idea how anyone can defend this game, people say those mechanics are intended, but I don't buy it for a single second, if GX was made during the internet, I'm sure they would have patch out snaking and MTS out of the game, at the very least.

It's always cool to play a bunch of different games by other devs, and then "come back" to Nintendo and feel how rock solid, polished and well designed they are in comparison. People go on and on about how "it's just nostalgia", and how you'd see how much better other things are once you give them a chance etc. but going back to Nintendo games I played as kid years later it's shocking how they play more or less exactly how I remember and how much they make everything else feel like slop in comparison.
