to me this sounds fairly obvious. Games like assassins creed and CoD dont need word of mouth, everybody knows of them already. Everybody knows what to expect. You cant astroturf something that everyone already knows of. Ubisoft sure as fuck tried to pay influencers and shit to shill outlaws and Shadows, but theres no mystery there. Theres no marketing budget high enought that will make people think the latest AC game is just completely different than all the others.
Something like E33 and BG3 which people dont know what to expect is far easier to astroturf and generate positive buzz about. Ive played E33 for about 20 hours and its alright, but nothing that would justify like 20 different "game of the decade" threads going on here, which btw have all gone away. You go into those threads and you couldnt really even tell what the game was about, only that it was "the best JRPG evar!!1"
BG3 I still dont even know what the fuck it is about. I've never seen gameplay or story being discussed. Only the surrounding political controversy and waifu shit, which i cant believe is organic because the women are all ulgy. And then yo go into the financials of the publisher and you discover these "Western" games are all China funded.
