The whole idea of dedicated gaming hardware is dying period. Microsoft was just the first to fall, Sony is already beginning to crack and Nintendo will be the last standing but eventually they will cave as well. The concept of having a computer dedicated solely to playing video games when we do everything else on our PC's and phones is just dated, modern consoles are basically just locked down PC's anyway, basically multimedia devices

They are either based around the usual suspects of storytelling from China, they're extremely barebones eugenics simulators, they're extremely barebones RPGs/ARPGS, or they're these completely dead open world games with nothing to do in them.

Phil himself said it, something to the effect of "even a bunch of 10/10s wouldn't help us win" so they rather have their studios produce okay-ish 7/10 games that keep people subscribed. Which also ties nicely into the push for a new $80 standard. Much easier to convince someone to put down $15 or $20 for a month to try a bunch of games than sell them a single game for $80. And with a little luck that subscriber stays subscribed because he is now playing a bunch of other games he would have never tried.

Cutting your hardware entirely from the equation means this is overhead you no longer have to consider, it's someone else's problem. This is why Microsoft is so hyperfocused on becoming the Netflix of gaming via Gamepass and cloud-based streaming, and it's why the Xbox team is now being pushed into optimizing Windows for gaming for the first time in the company's history, because the new and growing market is pic related -- low energy draw portable handhelds.

Actually, at that point why do you even need the PS5? MHW is on PC.
Looking at the reviews though, I have no idea why anyone would even want to play that game.
Let me break it down because it's sounds genuinely insane. Xbox fans (Indians marketers) propose PC handhelds with an Xbox sticker as a viable path. These handhelds can avoid paying Microsoft their online subscription wall by going into Steam. Then these same people will buy from Steam directly, which again skirts Microsoft's own walled garden store. So they lose their online subscription count and they lose a game purchase because Steam has no reason to share their revenue. This amazing device will be capable of playing current gen games and their entire Xbox library for 500 dollars. It will just work with alien tech magic to reduce R&D/manufacturing/shipping/retailer costs and Microsoft will sell their product at a loss, at a low price, just to be nice because they're a trillion dollar company.
This is third worlder logic (South American, Indian, Southeast Asia, Eastern European) about businesses. And they're the biggest defenders of renting games on Game Pass. You can smell the shit from this thread's Xbox and PC handheld fanboys hands.

Dedicated gaming devices are absolutely retarded. You can play games on a mobile phone and you can also play them on a non-gaming PC. For example, my PC without a graphics card could still play a lot of fun games.
I also have an old worthless graphics card from 2014 laying around too, I could install that to play an even bigger variety of games. Such as Cyberpunk 2077 for example, which Nintendo fans are super excited about for some reason right now.
This idea of "you can't play this specific AAA slop so you NEED to buy a dedicated gaming device to play it" is completely asinine. There are tens of thousands of games on phones alone which are more than enough gaming for the average person.

Assuming people on average pay $8 a month for gamepass, it's pulling in $280 million a month and that's probably on the low end because people like me stacked the sub when it was cheap. It's probably more like $350-400 million a month considering it costs between $10-$20 a month. So gamepass is pulling around 4 billion a year. People shouting dedicated consoles are dying are retarded. Dedicated consoles aren't what's dying, high-end gaming is dying. PC GPU prices are through the roof, PC handhelds all cost significantly more than the Steam Deck, Microsoft and Sony wanted to match high-end PCs with their consoles and are now paying for it. Doesn't matter if you game on consoles or PC, the name of the game is affordability, always has been.

this is what shawn layden said a few months ago about playstation. he said playstation probably only has one gen left because consoles are dying off. it makes sense why there is a big pc pivot by microsoft and also the entry into the market by valve. these pc console/hybrid devices are the future. the walled garden approach provides no benefit because it's hard to subsidise console prices now by locking people into a single storefront. next gen consoles are going to be expensive as fuck.

That anon that wants operating costs, you want them? Microsoft asks EA for a game to put on GamePass. EA gives them a figure of 300 million dollars, they haggle back and forth, it costs 250 million dollars for Microsoft. Deal is done, Star Wars is put on GamePass. Now Microsoft has to pump up their subscription number or retain what they have but bump them up to higher subscription tier. For the sake of argument we have 30 million Xbox consoles sold worldwide, out of those how many were traded in/sold out of rage? How many customers will NEVER EVER rent their games? So let's say 20 million customers own an Xbox Series and are happy to rent games. How many of those 20 million are using GamePass free trial renewing tricks? How many used the GamePass $1 stacking trick for years? Next we do the math on the potential of PC users who want to use Microsoft's ecosystem and rent games, is that really that high of a number? Microsoft tried to put their games exclusively on their store, but they walked it back and put them on Steam again. The PC figure is unknown so I can't even hazard to guess, but it obviously isn't the core of the GamePass subscription count.
So everywhere you look Microsoft has to make GamePass self sustainable, otherwise they can't put new games on the rental catalog and they can't invest in their own (50+ game studios) to keep the lights on. The whole Game Pass thing unravels like a house of cards. The actual nerd accounting must look like magic to fool Microsoft's Bob accountants for this long. And remember the meat and potatoes is getting their own hardware to trojan horse renting games, without it it looks even more dire as they're haggling Steam users and SmartTV owners (lol) to rent games. I'm just not convinced doing my own math that they somehow break even when the costs are so staggering as they kept increasing their internal developers count and they keep putting games on day one, which removes the entire 50-70 dollar purchases.

You could pay 50 more to get a __60 tier card, but guess what? You're still stuck on 8GB VRAM. The PC GPU market has been broken for years. Don't try to sugarcoat it by saying it's the XX80-XX90 cards that are the problem. You can't even activate DLSS properly on lower end VRAM cards because it has to generate future frames on VRAM, simply put playing Max 1080p isn't even viable on modern 8GB VRAM cards at native res or DLSS without having to bump down your settings. >>714074764Yeah, it just makes more sense to put your games on PC and sell pre-built branded PCs at cost as a baseline for new adopters. Hardware costs way too much to be sold at a loss and then you have to pray that your install base plays more than fifa, cod and GTA.
And nothing of value was lost.
for what it's worth i think the pc hybrid console will work. it caters to a large number of people.
>Biggest console launch of all time
>Total dominance of the Japanese market
>No layoffs
>No Concord tier level failures that cost $400M
>Actually making games

>>714095037Think about how many games Snoy could have made just with the money spent on their live service flops + Bungie alone. It could have legitimately been a return to PS1/PS2 era exclusivity.
>>714094372Only Nintendo really has exclusives in 2025. Others port their games to PC at the very least.
>>714095193>Japan Studio literally died for fucking nothingWelp.
Not gonna bother with another Playstation ever again, I think.
>>714095264it works for njntendo because they mostly make low budget games that don't need to be ported everywhere to make sure they turn a profit. nintendo can probably pump out 20 games for the cost of concord.
>>714095264So, what you are saying is that the future of consoles and PCs are the Nintendo Switch 2 and Steam Deck 2 and nothing else?
>>714095425That sounds like kino ngl
>>714075014China isn't going to going to be able to do anything about the fact that the underlying idea is retarded. Most especially since it's a PC and phone market already.
>>714095472Truly kino, baby
I would have bought an xbox eventually if they didn't raise the price. Now I never will.
>>714095425if microsoft can normalize cloud gaming, it will be a major industry shakeup just because it offers people games without an upfront cost. once people are used to not spending $500 on a console, it will be hard to convince them to do that again. like what happened with music, nobody actually buys cds they buy a spotify sub at most. really the same is true with movies too, people aren't really buying blurays or dvds, they're just streaming instead.
hardcore gamers might keep steam afloat carried by people making ai sloppa and streaming on their pc too, but all consoles will probably go the way of xbox in that scenario.
>>714095425>So, what you are saying isNo, I'm not saying that you fucking retard, and never even came close to implying it.
>>714095629Cloud gaming costs too much money, Microsoft will cut that too, there's only one direction for them and you know that direction, a third party publisher. They need to stop fooling around and wasting everyone's time with failed projects and just do that. There is nothing they can do now, it's over.
>>714080960They tried that already. Even with incentives and freebies, most people ultimately end up just buying dedicated hardware.
It's questionable if the experience is ever going to be good enough to actually get consumer buy-in.
>>714078557I hate to break it to you but consoles also use silicon and they can only lower prices so much. The next gen of consoles will either be expensive or underpowered (I'm guessing the latter). I'm thinking a $599 PS6 with no disc drive that trades blows with 60-tier cards albeit with more RAM.
>>714095713Cope, that's the future, Sony and Microsoft were retarded for chasing high-end gaming. Everything is happening as Nintendo and Valve predicted it would.
>>714081756Wait until he finds out that China also pushes DEI and BR style shit as part of a global demoralization campaign
>>714095425the market is shifting rapidly towards handhelds and mobile gaming because it's by far the most popular way of consuming vidya. we'll have hybrid consoles at best within the next decade.
>>714074764nintendo has the handheld market cornered, faggotron
>>714080454Ah, yes, the Steam Deck that has probably already been outsold by the Switch 2 in less than a month.
>>714095890Sony trapped themselves, the PS6 MUST be stronger than the PS5 Pro, expect that to cost $900. The PS handheld companion will be stronger than the Xbox Series S and weaker than the PS5 but can natively play SOME PS5 games, not all. That alone due to being able to play PS4 games, being the most powerful handheld, and cloud streaming will most likely cost $700. It's as over for them as it is for Microsoft.
>>714095786microsoft is trying to be at the forefront of cloud gaming, that's basically their modus operandi for everything they've been doing. their games are everywhere so people will want to play their games when they have their cloud service up. other competing platforms like geforce now would just take over, they're not going to cut back on it yet. game pass will eventually be cloud only, that's the end game. they already having it working on smart tvs and phones, they just need it to be better and for it to catch on. if that occurs, no one is buying consoles ever again other than the vidya equivalent of the people that collect vinyl. normalfags would instantly swap, you know this to be true and they still make up most of the market.
>>714096067Probably? It was outsold after three days.
>>714096031We're only going to have Nintendo, Valve, and mobile, the rest will fail and become third parties to them all.
>>714096237Normalfags will drop gaming and Nintendo and Valve will take over. Normalfags will just play IOS and Google Play games. Microsoft has lost completely, stop shilling them.
>>714096186>the PS6 MUST be stronger than the PS5 ProNot as hard or expensive as you might think. Just having a better CPU and UDNA would be a fat boost over the bottlednecked Pro. That being said $599 is a copium take unless they really skimp on power.
>>714087496>PC GPU prices are through the roofWe've had MoM GPU price drops and the release of the 9060 XT 16GB at $350. And a 9060 XT outdoes even the PS5 Pro.
>>714074513 (OP)>They had a good runno they didnt, 2 good systems (more like 1.5) before falling off a cliff is a pretty sad legacy.
>>714096282And why do people insist that Nintendo continue making dedicated hardware?
>>714096597Nintendo insists themselves. Because they want people to buy their hardware to play their exclusive games. Simple strategy.
>>714096417nintendo either goes cloud only too or dies in this scenario. normalfags aren't going to drop gaming, this would cut the buy in price to a $50 controller instead of a $500 console. normalfags would game more than ever because every device they own becomes a switch. their phone or tablet can play the game right where they left off and they can use any smart tv to play a game.
>>714096237Xcloud is still ass, tried Indiana Jones because it was a giganigga install and stream bitrate would plummet after like half hour of play, this on a wired gigabit network.
>>714096597Why can't you just admit that Sony and especially Microsoft fucked up? Are you on Microsoft's paywall, right now or something?
>>714090853I'm not saying that all non-white/east-asian doctors are shit, I'm just saying that I don't want to take the risk.
>>714096783Cloud has already failed in gaming, native won, shut up
>>714096845it depends a lot on how close you are to the nearest hub. geforce now in general is better though.
>>714096942that's like saying phone gaming will never take off because the ngage failed.
The damage kinect did to Xbox is phenomenal.
>>714096282nah microsoft will definitely have a presence whether that's through a first party device or 3rd party devices selling windows-based handhelds. valve will have a small share but windows will always be more popular with the masses. and nintendo will obviously have the marketing and mindshare even through they have the most restrictive platform of them all. it leaves questions over what sony's plan will be.
>>714097006Phone gaming is a different market from console gaming and PC gaming. Cloud needs the internet, it fails out of the gate just for that alone, Xbot.
>>714097026I'd say it was more the "If you don't have Internet, buy a 360" thing. That was the tipping point.
>>714097190Nope, costs too much, Steam Deck 2 will take the crown because it will be the most affordable handheld next to the Nintendo Switch 2, again, the future of Microsoft and Sony are third party publishers only.
>>714097219>Phone gaming is a different market from console gaming and PC gaming.yet it makes a shit ton more money. if there's more money from making cloud games for casuals, guess what people will make?
>Cloud needs the internet, it fails out of the gate just for that alone, this isn't the xbox one reveal any more, that's not really an issue. the switch 2 already needs you to use an internet connection to even use it after you turn it out(like the series x) and the majority of switch 2 games also need an online connection to download them even if you buy physical right now. i'm not saying cloud gaming is an eventuality but it is a very likely possibility, it depends on if the market rejects it in a more polished form.
>>714095913Please practice reading comprehension.
>>714097465That Switch 2 thing is only for Switch 1 BC, pajeet. Cloud has no future. Google's shitty console failed.
>>714097854you'll have to forgive the cloud gaming enthusiasts they're all jeets who play games on their phone and can't afford anything else so they REALLY need cloud gaming to be a thing
>>714097752The thing is, you didn't say it, I did because that's what you're going to get, there is no future for cloud gaming, there is no future for high-end gaming, there is no future for AAA gaming, there is no future where Microsoft and Sony won't become full third parties. This will all happen and there is nothing that can stop it. Whether anyone likes it or not, game industry is condensing.
>>714097854game key carts exist and the majority of games use them. the days of not needing an internet connection to play games are over because the same is true for some ps5 and xbox games. fuck, ever since sony added that new disc drive even the ps5 requires you to go online once now. at least they got that right for the base model where you could never take your console online and still play games.
>>714091519That's revenue. If GP were doing 5b/yr in revenue then they would be 87% of total Xbox division, which is obviously not the case. That other guy (
>>714088516) lists thre reasons that the Gamepass ASP is far below $15. At $900mm/yr, suggests that Gamepass ASP is around $3, which seems right considering sales, pack-ins, freebies, scamming, etc. For comparison, a _really_good_ videogame will have a lifetime ASP of $15 on a launch price of $60, so handicapping GP ASP from $15->$3 seems reasonable, if a little pessimistic. I'm just taking Xbox CEO's off the cuff remark here, which is neither legally binding nor precise, but he's got no reason to understate Gamepass revenue.
IF we were to isolate Gamepass as a unit from Xbox, you could be generous and consider all content "gifts" from greater Xbox to Gamepass, yet you'd still need the server infrastructure to support Gamepass. $900mm gets you fuck all for large-scale, at-will global infrastructure. Like I pointed out earlier, Netflix pays more than 20 times that.
>>714098061Everyone knows digital is the future but sorry to burst your bubbles, cloud isn't. Again, it's too expensive and Microsoft is becoming more interested in AI anyway, next is Quantum Computing. Cloud failed.
>>714098061Yeah, but key cards only require an internet connection to download the game and that's it. Even if it takes hours to download a game, after thst you don't need wifi at all unless it's an online game.
Good fucking luck trying to force cloud gaming to people with a poor internet connection.
>>714092325>>714091984Selling an Xbox that can launch Steam is essentially a prebuilt PC. So go look up the prices of prebuilt computers and tells us how much the next Xbox will cost. You're looking for a prebuilt that's above 16GB VRAM. Let's say 24GB VRAM for next gen, so tell everyone in this thread how Microsoft can afford to sell that entire prebuilt PC. What's the price?
>>714098215digital just leads to cloud gaming so the companies can have full control over everything. getting rid of local files means that piracy dies and you HAVE to get your games from them via their streaming service. it means they fully own their games and consumers truly own nothing. it's the corporate ideal, you're naive if you think that won't be pushed for.
>>714083687>sell the rights to SonichuKek, that would be cinema.
>>714074513 (OP)They just dropped out and turned themselves into publishers.
>>714098646Cloud requires a lot of investments on infrastructure to keep it going, AI is the new hot shit, Microsoft isn't doing the cloud stuff anymore. Only thing that will get their interest is AI. For digital games, you go online to download it once then you can play it offline if it isn't an online-only game.
>>714097465>the switch 2 already needs you to use an internet connection to even use it after you turn it out(like the series x)You're wrong about a lot, but especially this. My Switch 2 hasn't been on my wifi since the first day, and that was only to get data transferred over from my Switch OLED. Lie about something that people here don't have first-hand experience with.
this is the moment that killed xbox
revealing the Xbox One needed to connect online to play games, you couldn't trade physical games because it was attached to your console and needed the connect camera to be connect to play that is always on watching and listening during the height of NSA spying fears
they couldn't win back fans after this, even after rolling back some of those things and have been slowly bleeding out since
>>714099048I really struggle to think of one good thing they did or announced since this.
>>714098930i don't think they've given up yet, ai can also augment how they deliver those games by reducing the bandwidth and hardware requirements on their end.
>>714099041the system needs the day 1 update to function, you fucking retard. that's why nintendo didn't send out early units to journos and this is well documented.
the future is mobile games and gacha
>>714080682Steam Deck isn't exactly a fair comparison because it's including extra hardware like a display, and is limited by handheld heat and power limitations.
I think consoles might be replaced by third party partners, with the first parties providing reference builds and a lightweight OS. Kind of like how GPUs are now.
>>714098570What's with you illiterate retards? I never said I wanted an xbox that can launch steam. Nobody did. Some PC games require an xbox account and share the xbox live ecosystem with the xbox consoles, but for free. You're either an idiot or you're making shit up intentionally to try to defend the horrible practice of subscription based online multiplayer. Probably both.
>>714099276I played BOTW without the update before registering my Switch 2. Why lie about something on a board where anyone can know you're wrong?
>>714098570Modern video game consoles are already essentially prebuilt PCs, but with less features, and they largely cost what people would expect for a console. You really have no idea what you're talking about.
>>714080454Who the fuck uses the Deck for anything other than gaming? It's decent for some stuff, but I'm willing do bet people who have one also have a PC that can pull it off better.
No one's buying the thing over an actual PC

>>714075014they already have
>>714100042because you can play a grand total of 5 fucking games that are fully on cart and are switch 2 only if you don't update it, that botw version you're talking about is the brand new switch 2 one because the switch 1 version won't work without being online once. meanwhile you could put ps4 games into a launch ps5 and have it play without ever going online, you didn't buy something that needed to go online once to do basic functions.
>>714100487I dunno guy, you're really mad, it was my Switch 1 cart, you're going off about shit for some reason and doing it in front of people that know better. I'm not even going to engage with your broader point that conflates online updating with cloud gaming or whatever. Take a moment to get up and drink some water or walk outside or something.
>>714099276>i don't think they've given up yet, ai can also augment how they deliver those games by reducing the bandwidth and hardware requirements on their end. It's pretty much over for cloud gaming
>>714100731>The Switch 2's ability to play Nintendo Switch 1 games relies on a translation layer that needs the day one update to function. congrats dude, you went online or you're lying.
>>714096516>its be sold at lower price than ps5 anonAnon , please
>>714074764>The whole idea of dedicated gaming hardware is dying period.Says who? The xbots and microshaft?
>>714100285>>714100001Brain dead stupid motherfuckers. The hypothetical PC Xbox hybrid would be running Windows or a console mode. The PS5 and Switch (plus past consoles) can't just run Steam willy nilly. The point that went over your retarded balding PC fanboy head is the console model is subsidized. While prebuilt PCs, laptops, and portable gaming PCs like the Deck are sold at a profit from day one. You think you're so fucking smart, "consoles are PCs", look at the big brain here. Do consoles need drivers uodates? BIOS updates? Why are consoles and PC port performances so different despite them being the same? Hm? Ever thought about that?
You bumbling imbecile. Microsoft like prebuilt PC OEM would be selling a 24GB VRAM prebuilt hybrid PC next gen at a profit because no one will be subsidizing via Online Paywall subscriptions. You'll be able to pirate. Play Steam. And because of this it is just a prebuilt PC. So what do you think a non subsidized prebuilt console PC will cost that will launch next gen with 24GB VRAM? If your answer is within 999+, that ie correct. And it is insane.
>>714101283>The hypothetical PC Xbox hybrid would be running WindowsThen it isn't worth buying
>>714089294Phones are ok if you literally have no better options available at that current point in time.
>small screen, even with todays humongous phonesTrying to do any serious work will just suck balls. It's suitable for shitposting, scrolling dickdock and casual gaming but not much else. Would you do editing on a smartphone? You're just handicapping yourself for no reason.
>no buttons or pointer inputThe lack of proper tactile feedback is a definite minus. Also fiddling with small on screen elements is a pain in the ass. Of course you could make the argument that you could use a controller or a mouse but the screen is still so fucking small that at that point you might as well use a laptop.
