Also "compilers will optimize it" is a wrong statement. They can produce assembly that's much better than what you can hand roll. But they can also shit out unoptimized garbage if you don't help it enough.

Compilers operate on a basis where they have to ensure that the changes they make will not change the program's behaviour. Which also means that if you don't write your code a specific way, it's highly likely that there's barely any optimization that happens.

There's also stuff that the compiler cannot fix, such as cache locality if you use a terrible data structure, or simply using a retardedly inefficient algorithm to begin with.

If I were you, I'd avoid telling stuff like "the compiler will optimize it", because it's the kind of statements that lead to the current state of software, ie stuff that runs slower for the same functionalities 10 years later, on computers that are a 1000x faster

There's the engine side that is made in C++, and it's hopefully well programmed and "what the white man does", as it's shit that deal with millions of loops per second and all that.

And then there's the scripting side, where shit like C# or blueprints is and all runs like once per frame,it's where the "indians" will work, if we use /pol/ terms.
Yandev and Ferretfuckdev and all that are on the "indian" side of the engine.
The script side only turns into a performance issue when you try to do shit like an entire open world engine on it.

Also on 3D games there's the artist side where there are endless ways to fuck with the performance horribly.

Natural sound simply doesn't work like this. He can't really claim this is some noise filtering setup, since you can see he lets the high-end hiss from his S and H sounds bleed through, leaving this big notch filter-like hole. If anything, his audio has the most high frequency (noise range) content out of anyone on the panel.

The hard cutoff around 15k you see is from lossy compression and isn't anything he did himself.

C++ side for performance and good programmers.
C# / blueprint for people programming the door opening code.
Even character programming is like "call the C++ subroutine of raycasting, call the C++ subroutine of the physics apply force to the center" and so forth.
Performance on scripting side is rarely an issue.
