It would almost be worth it if they had a huge library available from the start, but it takes 2-3 years to get even 20 games with these fuckers
But I've still got my physical GC collection so I don't care

People pay for convenience. Not hard to figure that out, then again you think Nintendo Online is expensive. Also zoomers/gen alpha are probably less computer literate than milennials/gen x so they probably don't even know how to emulate.

Emulators are also an extra bonus since I do play online on Switch games too, so it's convenient.
I may recall N64 emulation on NSO wasn't great in the first month or so but received a bunch of updates later.

I'm not mad about the price or game selection. I'm mad about the absolute dogshit quality of online play in the emulators. Borderline unplayable playing with friends that live 30 min away.

my brother is like this. Not necessarily a tendie, but legit likes buying games. Not PLAYING games, but buying them. He'll buy a game he already owns 3 times over just to have it on the new system, then never play it. He also called me a loser for hacking my Switch for free games instead of buying them

>People pay for convenience
but getting the games on PC is just as if not more convenient.
-Prep time-
>go to website, download dolphin and game
>drag game into directory folder
-running game-
Open dolphin which be on your task bar
Click game
That's 2 steps to get started, and 2 to actually get in the game

Never said emulation was hard, I do it all the time. But pushing "Buy Nintendo Online" on a console you're familiar with and instantly having access to all those games is clearly much easier. It's also way less steps than what you've outlined. You're also assuming it's straightforward to find the right resource to get games.

idk man when I got into piracy I literally googled piracy guides and the first thing that popped up was, unfortunately, a subreddit. Which reddit is gay but it had a megathread of links to websites to download anything you could ever want. Say what you want about reddit being gay as fuck but r/piracy is the most spoonfeeding shit imaginable. I can personally attest that this shit isn't that hard and finding shit, especially gamecube roms, is pretty simple

as much as I'd like to argue, I remember reading that computer majors, in college, thought your computer finds files by just randomly looking through every file on your computer until it gets what it wants. Likened it to all the files being in a bucket or something.
I feel like people didn't used to be this tech illiterate.

>getting the games on PC is just as if not more convenient.

Once again, 4chan retards think everyone is a degenerate virgin who lives in their bedroom and thinks everyone need to live the same degenerate 3rd world lifestyle as them.

I recently played Streets Of Rage with my 7 year old son. It's nice introducing him to the games I played growing up and educating him about the hobby while bonding with him.

Imagine your world

>s-s-sit down son. Pull a chair up to the desk! We're gonna play some rooms
>just let me download the rom, it won't take a minute... heh heh, how's school?
>ah OK, let me extract this and add it to my roms folder
>just gonna launch the emulator now...
>ah OK, shucks. I just need to map the controls to your joypad
>w-wait... come back... it'll just take me a few minutes!!! You'll love this!!!

Or...you could just take care of the (minimal) setup before roping your kid into the process. And even then, I really don't think my oldest (5 years old) would have an issue sitting through that process if it meant she got to play something with me. Can't guarantee she wouldn't get bored of the game after 5 minutes, but I guess that's a separate issue kek.

You've lost the plot if you're defending this.
>free DLC for certain games
Not free.
>dedicated voice chat and streaming
Again, you've lost the plot if you're defending the fact that this service comes at a premium.
>points you can redeem for free merchandise
They gutted most of this. At best, you get a few cents back on every digital purchase.
>proprietary access to first-party accessories
This is just retarded. I don't understand why they limit the reach of these products.
>digital library of retro games
While this is true, you have to look at the bigger picture. Nintendo knows they make more money this way than through selling these games outright. In other words, the service is inherently low-value, and there are many consumers paying for something they will never use.

>online play
Should be free. Hell, it WAS free in the first year of the switch until they just decided to charge for it
>a digital library of retro games
Back then you could just buy and own whichever retro games you wanted without having to pay $20+
>free DLC for certain games
Most of which is old DLC no one even plays anymore. They were so generous with OE but decided not to with SO
>cloud saving and backups
Fun fact: did you know if you unsub they just outright delete your backups? Even if you donโ€™t have a switch you best keep paying if you donโ€™t want your library deleted
>dedicated voice chat and streaming
If that matters to you then just use discord, it runs a lot better and iโ€™m not paying $20 to press a button
>points you can redeem for free merchandise
Yea, such riveting merch like a digital wallpaper, or aโ€ฆ keychain (still gotta pay shipping)
>proprietary access to first-party accessories
$20 fee just to buy a N64 controller, they can fuck off

It's still a service issue. If Nintendo did their own spin on GOG (prioritizing retro games; providing ownership to customers; routine sales + reasonable pricing), I doubt anyone would be bitching about their approach to selling retro games. The subscription model works for some people, but at its core, it's still a scheme for effortlessly milking more from the average customer. I don't think it should be encouraged.

No, people would still be bitching about the price or gloating about pirating. People will always gloat about pirating because then the discussion would turn from
>why would I pay for a subscription service to not own these games?
to
>why would I pay for a digital version of these games that have existed for years when I can just get them somewhere else for free since the original developers aren't even making money anyways?
There's no winning, except for the people that don't come up with any coping phrases and just say "I pirate these games because I can" and move on with their day

All the roms ever made for consoles have been backed up by the scene, nintendo could easily make a deal with them and make a Nintendo Console that legally emulated everything, but they won't because they are copyright nazis.

The problem with this take is that it isn't even a flex to pirate Switch games. Just call it what it is. Most people are either unaware of emulation or are too lazy to spend a couple of minutes setting things up. And that's a good thing.

I don't want more people emulating. I want to be given the opportunity to pay a reasonable price (to be determined by me) for a product that I would like to buy.
