I like hero the best, even if the game itself isn't the best. I want more adventure style bomberman games, like that one zelda clone on the GBA or heroes.

I really liked 64 but I was never good enough for the actual hard shit like gold cards.

I heard that DS bomberman game wad pretty good, lets you get a lot of different upgrades, sort of like a successor to tournament

I don't know that I'd call it essential, but Bomberman Ultra was really cool and some of the best couch vs. I've had. Seemed like it had a good mix of powerups without going insane.

What's the consensus on Generation and Jetters? I've played through Generation multiple times, and I'm currently playing through Jetters for the first time, which kind of feels like a cheaper version of Generation with some extra mechanics. I do like how elemental bombs in Jetters aren't just color coded though.

I grew up with Generation and Jetters mostly. Me and a few friends played them all the time after school. But Bomberman Live was probably the most hours total for me in a Bomberman game.

How is The Second Attack and Generation in comparison to other games?

Saturn Bomberman Fight!! is probably my least favorite. Clunky as fuck. Weird considering Saturn is the best or at least one of.

Second Attack is great, many may prefer the original 64 but I really adore TSA. It feels like the first time Bomberman truly tried uping the stakes and playing it straight, not just with plot but with tone and execution as well. It really feels like they tried with the game.
Generation on the other hand feels akin to a licensed game, it's not awful but it's such a mediocre nothing game. Part of it also felt like a prototype to Jetters to me.

Bomberman has been a target for decades, ever since R was a flop and was just a Konami shilling game instead of an actual celebration of Bomberman.

Bomberman should've kept with the 3-D games. That cancelled 3DS game is a huge missed opportunity. Story/Tournament was interesting as well, going in a similar route to 2-D Zelda.
The battle royale games AKA most games could've released from time to time and improved what Saturn delivered. They are too samey, otherwise. Basically, the series needed someone like Kumazaki.

I stopped playing them after Generation for the gamecube.
Bomberman 64 sticks out to me as being the blueprint for what bomberman games should be.
However, for the classic grid style Bomberman titles, Atomic Bomberman felt the best for the amount of freedom and customization it gave you. Me and my brother would crank up the speed, and play these lightning fast matches. That was super fun.
