Why is it now considered a beloved classic?

Quake ][ was shit. It completely threw out what made DOOM and QUAKE great.

Too based of a game for brown nu-/v/incels, poojeet coded LLM infesting this place and shartypedos. A toilet bowl in a burger joint has more redeeming values than this board.

The weapons felt pretty good, albeit some kind of balancing attempt was made. But neither this nor the prequel kept Doom's obvious weapon-tier assignments (example: key that brings up normal shotgun is 3, get super shotgun, it now brings the latter up, press it again to go to a lower tier), and the backtracking was atrocious. Not the right way to beat Quake 1's abysmal repetitiveness. You'll quit Quake 2 before you finish it without a guide.

You know? I never finished any Doom. I only ever finished Quake 1. I chalk it up to mostly playing online.

Quake 2 was massive when I was growing up. We had lan parties and even tournaments all the time. Quake 3 was ok but didnt even come close to the hype that Quake 2 got. I always considered it a beloved classic.

True but that's because they can actually use the engine to its potential. Quake 2 was an optimisation dream but PCs of 1997 would melt playing the new campaigns and the mods that have been made since.

Liked it more than 3. Still remember doing 360 no scope backflip from the top of the elevator on the edge using the granade launcher and killing some guy on the ledge below.

The new campaign constantly does the Cacoward Doom wad thing where you enter a room and 100 guys run out at you. It gets old fast.

Quake Wars was the best Quake

It's not. The normie is entirely brainless so he didn't know Quake II existed until the remaster. The positive attitude about it probably just come's from the aforementioned taxpaying livestock feeling actual (vaguely) classic FPS gameplay for the first time.
