Fast Forward/Speed Up games
How do you feel about using fast forward when playing older games?
I've been replaying some old ps1 games that I used to enjoy when I was younger. I'm surprised I was ever able to play any of these three games without fast forwarding. When it comes to grinding, I can't think of any game worse than those three, especially Forbidden Memories. I wonder if I'm just too old for these kinds of games now. I can still enjoy old wrpgs like Fallout classic trilogy without any problem but some old jrpgs or srpgs, like the original Fire Emblem Gaiden feel way too slow for me.

For me, slowing down and playing an older game on its own terms is part of the appeal. No shade on fast forward users, but it's not for me personally

I simply avoid 90% of the JRPGs.

I wonder if I'm just being affected by how used I am to fast-paced content.

Oh yeah I get that

Yeah I use fast forward a lot in old jrpgs. Official re-releases even have it build in.
I dunno, I think that if you can play a game perfectly fine at x4 speed, its too slow. Like in any Final fantasy game, 99% of your encounters are filler encounters, there's no gameplay depth/fun there.

So will I get the first anon and respect his take, I am more like OP

Why would you want to fast forward DW1. You don't want to make time-sensitive care mistakes.

Digimon World 1 is one thing, but I can't imagine playing World 2 without fast forward now. Everything was fucking slow there on top of ungodly amount of grinding.

Literally. DW2 was a damn slog even back in the day, but nostalgia made me power through it. Now? Iโ€™d rather be waterboarded than do another 50-floor dungeon crawl at normal speed just to get a recycled boss encounter. FF toggles saved my sanity. Honestly, itโ€™s wild how that game somehow manages to be both slow and overwhelming with menus at the same time. Fast forward isnโ€™t just QoL there-it's mandatory.
