When I was like 12 years old I had a lot of late teens and early 20s female friends on WoW. Typically I’d assume they were just guys pretending to be girls, but I eventually added a few on MSN and to my surprise all of them were actually female. One of them lived one town over from me, and she wanted to meet me to give me some manga (she had a collection and I had never read any. I met up with her after school on a Friday afternoon and we went to a park. The manga she showed me were largely /ss/ stuff. From my experience it's less on the parents and more on the the kids themselves. I usually see parents happy to keep the family together and pass on the house and all that but culturally it's seen as a fail state so people's kids still feel a need to leave the nest permanently.

How do I make friends online? Feels like its nearly impossible to make them when you're out of college.

In Discord channels people just talk past each other and aren't really interested in doing things with others. Friendships seem to last only a short while then fizzle out. Making guys friends sometimes seems hard because guys sort of act strange, or have weird hangups or competitive streaks with you out of nowhere.

Once someone suggested roleplaying, but honestly I've been roleplaying for 20 years since I was 10 and I've found most people there don't want to make friends. They either keep you quarantined on their lewd discord being deathly afraid you'll out them or beg you for roleplay constantly to the point of it being a serious embarrassment.

As a warning, if you don't have close bros now, at my stage in life, you're cooked. You'll never have close pals you can enjoy parts of life with. So the ones you have now? Keep them close. I lost my pals, so for me its so over.

I had a few buddies online through forums with my closest friend being a guy named Carl (obviously not his real name but that shit didn't matter). We spent most of the time on Aim back in the day with me telling him stupid stories, bullshitting about games, music or whatever.
Eventually I pretty much up and quit forum lurking to go out and get my shit together, so we eventually drifted apart until AOL eventually shut everything down and we hadn't exchanged alternate messaging so that basically killed it for us.
Good ole Carl should be doing fine for himself now, wouldn't mind stomping him in some shitty steam games nowadays though
