You can tell how much worse the quality of games has become over the years just by observing how much less interesting or polished the user interface has gotten over the years. Look at games like Crysis, Black Ops 1, Portal 2, Mirror's Edge, F1 2012, Dead Space, so on and so forth and how they go about creating a front-end experience with little details and how it feels to navigate it.

Now compare that to their modern equivalents and see how things feel like they've regressed back to the 1990s in terms of how primitive the interfaces are, except with none of the stylistic charm that those games still tried to add or with the same efficiency of navigation.

I honestly like the Wii UI with the whole TV channel theme going on. Too bad the dark theme was only on specific Wiis, and I never fucked with theme mods because there was a higher risk of bricking the system menu.
