Because they didn't actually do all that much with the remaster but improve multiplayer and then put some weapon and character models in that probably end up looking worse. The mods they included which you can get for free with the original really comprise most of the differences

Everyone who cared about already played it to death. Besides that the remaster differences are minimal and nothing special (aside from the multiplayer I guess).

because the only people interested in this game in 2025 are boomers or retro gayming enthusiasts, most of which will prefer original releases over remasters, which don't have a good reputation at all in recent years.

alright

>Game converted to KEX engine. Generally provides a smoother experience over the original (even with above 60 fps fixes) but has some infrequent microstutter
>Mods confirmed to be in use by Nightdive include: SHTUP, SCP and SS2 400
>Audio option for dialogue captions
>Cap FPS, ambient occlusion, bloom, anti-aliasing graphics options added. Motion blur also appears to be partially in use but you can only turn it off in the console
>Controller support available on PC
>Melee swing assist option. No idea what it does though. Didn't seem to make melee any easier
>Language options for text in French, German, Italian, Spanish. Voices will still be in English but modders are slowly bringing out voice packs
>View and weapon bob options
>When you select a difficulty the game will explain what to expect
>Voice chat built in for multiplayer
>LAN still available as a multiplayer mode. Tested it and can actually use a single computer to run 4 instances of the game for multiplayer this way
>5 save slots and an autosave available in multiplayer
>Multiplayer doesn't start until all players have chosen a career and done their 3 postings. A synchronization screen appears until then
>All players can use cheat codes in multiplayer
>Anyone pausing in multiplayer will cause all others to pause
>Multiplayer difficulty has one difficulty, hard
>Everyone in multiplayer has a different color
>You can damage other players with both melee and ranged attacks. Previously this was only ranged
>If someone moves to a different map in multiplayer then all players move to that map
>If you die in multiplayer there is no penalty or game over. Instead, you respawn at the start of the map or at an activated reconstruction device

>50 achievements. Most are generic though like reach energy skill 6 and such
>Game vault on menu which has artwork, manuals, the prima walkthrough guide, cutscenes, the soundtrack, unused voice lines, interviews and promotional videos. The archive is located in the game directory which you can easily unzip
>Cutscenes are at 1080p up from about 240p originally. Extremely similar to the original basically just using new models. Can find them in the game directory
>Mods are selected at the start of the game. Entirely possible to turn all of them off and get an experience similar to the original release
>You can still access the console by pressing shift and ;. This allows to alter a number of settings as well as enter the same cheat codes as before (disables achievements)
>The four robot announcers for the UNN recruitment facility / yearly postings have changed but retain similar accents to their counterparts. This was likely done because of changes to the technical tutorial and keybinds. By disabling SS2 EE's mod you can use the old voices
>Main menu scrolls binary code more convincingly
>Crew lockers no longer glow red to show that they're locked but a faint green. Not entirely logical when solid green means unlocked
>Eggs play a better opening animation
>Save slots for singleplayer increased to 15, up from 13. You can also have one autosave and one quicksave. In addition to game duration they also have timestamps and can be renamed
>Contextual display appears near items / devices. This is more prominent when using a controller
>Cameras no longer blink when they're offline like in SCP mod
>New icons for all inventory items
>MFD button in use mode changed to an image of a person
>Weapon reload animations added. They usually don't play if you press reload too rapidly
>Items like medical keys and power cells are automatically used when you right click on their associated devices

It's an 8-10 hour game that's older than most people on /v/. I'm surprised they did a remaster to begin with.

I beat it this weekend going mostly melee/AR with psi for healing and an energy pistol for annoying shit like eggs and cameras. Was fun, but god damn is finding the relay code on the rec deck or doing the egg hunt still a pain in the ass all these years later.

>Some of the door and loot crate models have been replaced over their modded counterparts. A few others too like the truck and tram but these are harder to notice
>Chunks of protocol droids come off as you damage them
>Can loot protocol droid remains
>Better display of shotgun penetration onto walls, multiple holes instead of one
>Beds in command b are all unusually black for some reason as if the texture isn't loading properly
>Can't scroll wheel down interface text e.g. audio logs to read the text faster
>Cigarettes renamed to Uplift from Laramies
>Player body no longer jiggles around while on the Command deck Tram
>Grub corpses don't disintegrate into pieces but play a splitting in half animation
>Laser overcharge abuse glitch from the launch version has returned
>Body of the many looks worse in general. Very flat textures in some parts compared to the standard mods or even original game. Seems like a lot of changes went on here
>Additional reflections, usually on doors or windows. Cubemaps being used
>Annelid launcher and viral proliferator still have no reload animation and the same sound effects for reload
>Invisibility not applying effect correctly to all weapons like in SCP
>Wrench can become soaked with blood (Tacticool mod also did this)
>Orbs of data that float in the SS1 level now make a noise so you don't accidentally step into them
>SHODAN avatar looks different. SHODAN's shield doesn't seem to change color like it should
>Cannot change binds for navigation markers, message log display or clearing redirection markers. These would never be known to people who hadn't played the original
>Bulkhead door buttons don't blink green anymore but display a steady green. Opened doors have a new red steady light.
>Various energy projectile based attacks updated for both the player and enemies, most are generic balls of energy
>Game bugs noted: You can become stuck on doors. A lot of glitchy objects in the kitchen area of recreation cause color issues

Beat it for the first time. Holy shit is the later parts rough as shit. The egg shit was surprisingly not that bad but the flesh body was tedious as hell. Boss fight was anti climatic and the ending was a giant tonal shift compared to the rest of the game. Overall I enjoyed the early and mid game but there are some weird quirks like how unfitting the medbay music is. Weapons are weirdly balanced like all the alien stuff is gimmicky dogshit that isn't worth taking at all.

Enemies would occasionally stand back up and be unkillable(happened 3-4 times) and we didn't get the cutscene after beating the final boss the first time(had to reload a save and do it again). Also the air jets in the flesh level did nothing and one of the guys told me they're supposed to shoot you around

i imagine not too many players want to spend $30 on it seeing as how the original's been on steam for 12 years now, has gone on sale multiple times and works perfectly out of the box
