That really fuck with me. I grew up with everything Halo that wasn't the games since I never owned an xbox. I recenty took time to look at the Master Chief collection I've owned and haven't touched for a couple of years now.
I started with ODST since I liked the idea of not being a super solider for once--and it sucked. Then I tried Halo Reach and it was better but it was still mind numbing. Maybe Bungie just didn't perform here so I tried going back to the roots for later comparison and tried CE (which I had found memories of the demo I downloaded and played more than a decade ago as the only Halo I had some access to) which was alright but really felt old and Halo 2 which was well not that good.
Halo 3 finally was alright and I actually finished it. Halo 4 felt decent.
After all this said and done I genuinely don't get Halo. weren't these games contemporary with some of the more influential Call of Duty games? I don't really like shooters but Modern Warfare 4 was some kino shit back in the day. Halo has such an interesting premise but it falls flat in game play and actual in game story telling.
Somehow every game really wants you to drive a warthog and watch some NPC mindlessly shoot into thin air while being killed by Grunts. With all of them played in short succession that theme really sticks out. These shitty Warthogs. I rather walked.
I can only conclude that Bungie never really made good games, they just made a fun shooter in its time for xbox.
