The closest thing to "regular" is maybe Welkin. A bot with an axe and a rocket launcher, like some kind of Zaku. Its only unique gimmick is trapping you in an box while it spins its axe in your face.
Or going the Macross angle, both Falcon and Skyraider are veritechs that alternate between jet and robot, and their loadouts are relatively conventional.

Every other robot has some quirky energy weapons, drones, deployed states, external shields, and they all look like they fell in a box of greebles.

Oh now I think of it I also think there's one thing that will also very quickly kill the game

I hate how this game has no casual lobbies and standard matches are basically ranking meaning you'll always rank up as you play. The problem about this is say you one trick'ed something like Walkan for 5 days and get to diamond. Good for you. But the next morning you be like "hey today I want to try something different" and you decides to leave your comfort zone and hop on something new and you never played before like say Falcon, but now you're literally on your first Falcon game matching against other diamond players so you're fucked and basically ruining the game for everyone.

It would be better if ranks are based on individual mechs and not account. But even if the devs read this it would probably take a year for them to change because they're all too busy shitting out skins to make money.

Alyenes is both buff and nerfed. They give it more energy so now he can comfortably chase and melee rape light mechs like limu, narukami or even falcon. But since heavy mechs all get like 3x hp in the 2nd alpha there's a heavy mech meta going on and a lot of players just play heavy and sit on objectives and Alysnes is not going to do much against a heavy mech comp hunkered down on the objective.

Skyraider is fucked because heavy mechs have 3x hp but skyraider is untouched so now heavy mech can literally just sit there and tank his energy missile which deals only like 15% of a heavy mech HP which is laughable

They seems to buff Skyraider alot in the prerelease new introduction trailer. He reloads much faster now, so no longer will you deliver your payload and have to wait and do nothing for 15 seconds waiting for your abilities to come off cool down.
Big question however remains as to whether his kit is good against heavy mechs. The very existence of skyraider is still kinda awkward because Tricera came with anti-missile turrets and passively counters skyraider which kinda defeats the whole purpose of playing skyraider in the first place.

The reload buff is great but fundamentally speaking there's no reason to play Skyraider when other mechs exist. If you want to bully light mechs you have Panther, Alysnes and Falcon. If you want to be a team player and pressure the frontline you have Tricera, hurricane and Walkin. If you want AoE damage you can go Stego. Skyraider is never really a top pick in the first place, and now the Teicera meta is making it a lot worse because you can't even drop bombs on the objective without a Tricera shooting down 80% of your missiles. And now they're releasing a new orbital bombardment that conveniently bypass Tricera's anti-missile bullshit there's now even less reason to play Skyraider even after his buff.

One of the primary reason why heavy mechs are so broken in the 2nd alpha is that they gave heavy mechs 3x more health to make them more tanky and more fit for frontline duty (which is fine by itself), but they completely forgot about the healing aspect of this game and they kick out the 2nd alpha without playtesting that shit. The thing about healing is that all healing in this game (Lumi smke, tricera drones, pianka drill etc) is based off percentage of max HP, so when you heal a heavy mech that has 4x more hp than a light mech it also means the healing is 4x more effective. This shit is why heavy stacking is so broken in the 2nd alpha and why the team with more heavy mech alway wins the game.

Basically cosmetics. There's a BP that lets you buy more cosmetics with ingame points and likely also gives you more a bit of the actually premium currency.
I've searched really hard through everything they've shown so far and it doesn't look like anything is P2W right now, at least nothing in all the Verge modes which is the competitive modes.
You unlock the 3 remaining mech with ingame pts you can only get by playing (although buying the BP should give you 15k points up front so you only have to grind
But the 12 starter mechs are all free and you still can play with the 3 new ones for free for a week if you want to. You get 15k pts by playing for 5 hours according to the dev, that's reasonable to me and much better than what they've been doing in the last beta where it was a lot more questionable. It's surprising how much they've been listening to feedback so screaming at them seems to work and we should do it more.
The only thing I'm worried about at this point is the netcode and the bot situation.

I can't play this game worth a shit with a M&KB, maybe if I had more mouse buttons it could feel better. I play controller with button modifications depending on the mech. L2 Jump/Ascend, R2 Dodge, L1 and R1 weapons, other stuff on the face buttons and Descend I had on L3 for a while because I didn't have a nice place for it. I kept accidentally hitting it and it was painful for my hands to hold Descend and move sometimes while doing Falcon loops so I got a foot pedal and mapped that to Descend and now I'm very happy.

The worst thing last beta was running into people playing all the Heavy stuff because your damage is not very appreciable against those targets and you don't have much you can do to get people off the points. Those games I really needed my team to coordinate with me on killing the healer and then single-targeting people down. Narukami is more annoying to deal with than Aquila because there's a good chance the Narukami can slip away and it ends up taking more time, even if Aquila takes forever to kill. You have to watch out for Panther players, if you're annoying enough they will tunnel you and one good Lance can take you out. There's a few things that come to mind.

Bind your transform to a key you're okay with pressing a lot and then treat it like a burst character. Go into turret, unload, back off. It does a shit ton of damage if you get all the missile bursts and grenades to hit. Once you learn the movement in the game you are pretty mobile. In the death match mode I had the whole team of 5 chasing after me while my team was picking them off. Using your turret shield to reflect like it's parry helps too. And the cloaking dust is crazy good.

Also a lot of the modes are objective like the other anon said. The ones where you have to cap nodes and you fight over them is easy mode because one you get a shield while in turret mode and two, the delock/invisible skill makes you invisible long enough to cap the node. The only way to get knocked out of capping it is for a melee to hit while not being locked on to you. Then you have the cart one where you can just sit on that thing and hold down buttons.
