It was just a placeholder ending until they could finish up the DLC
Anonymous No.714134356 >>714136676
will they reference this in the remaster next year?

>Fine I will do it, but it's still you destiny and stuff
You can tell the devs couldn't get over how much they were mocked for their shitty ending

that's how bethesda's always been
their veteran writers are always overly defensive when it comes to people dissecting their shitty games

Every other Fallout game to that point had a big climactic, definitive ending. They wanted to keep up that trend. But they didn't want to cut the cool Super Mutant companion they liked just because it brought up a logical alternative solution in which no one had to die. They had two conflicting priorities, and they thought they could square them away by leveraging Fawkes's philosophical nature. But it didn't work, and people didn't like having a hard ending in a Bethesda game anyway. So Broken Steel it was.

Then Obsidian went on to invalidate most of that thinking by making the most beloved game in the series, with a hard ending, and no DLC to patch over it. All because it was the patronizing in the face of an obvious solution that pissed people off in the first place.

Charon was a ghoul and also wouldn't go into the chamber for the player.

Every rad a ghoul absorbs is one step closer to going feral. It at least makes sense that Charon wouldn't be willing to do that to himself, fearing it may happen instantly. With Fawkes, there are no extenuating circumstances, and he has no reason at all not to be the one to do it.

why can't troons understand destiny?

I don't think classic Fallout fans cared that much about having a hard ending. It was mostly TES fan like you said
Also classic Fallout and New Vegas were designed to have a hard ending. The game explains the outcome of all the choices you made in locations when you beat the game, so there's no reason for keeping content to play after the main quest.
Fallout 3 really didn't have that, so of course it felt weird

They could've just contrived a way to separate Fawkes, RL-3, or Charon from the player before the purifier scene.
Even a cliche, convenient collapsing ceiling between you two would've gone over a million times better than the shit they shipped.

Fawkes isn't an infallible arbiter of destiny. It's just his opinion. For some reason, he wants you to fucking die there even though he could solve the problem himself with no harm coming to anyone.

He's the only one who believes it's your destiny to die there. He doesn't have weird clairvoyant powers and he doesn't subscribe to some weird fatalist philosophy at any other point in the game. It doesn't make sense for him to decide you have to die there. The only rational conclusion based on that evidence is that he was counting on you to die for some reason and was never your friend in the first place.

How do ghouls go feral in canon then? Why are almost all of the feral ghouls we see always found in places with high radiation? Why did most of the people at Camp Searchlight turn into ghouls and go feral in short order?

Why do game devs make these player death endings in games where they know the players are going to want to continue looking for things to complete once they clear the main scenario?
Anonymous No.714136671

It equals in more game time because now the player is forced to start a new game
It also discourages people from rushing the campaign also increasing play time

Can't believe they couldn't just script in a reason for your rad-resistant companions to not even be there. Have them have to chase after some Enclave soldiers outside or guard the entrance or get locked out or something. So dumb.

I don't know if feral ghouls would attack non-ferals, but I'd assume the non-feral ghouls would either be killed by ferals or choose to leave the areas to integrate back into society, while feral ghouls tend to stick to the areas where they transformed.

they should've killed off the mutant in an epic scripted event or something

It's impressive how many things they had to write wrong to end up at this moment. It's absolutely egregious.

You can have Fawkes activate project purity. The Broken Steel changes were as the one project lead stated "intended".
