Why is tech stagnating
PS6 is just going to be PS5 with more AI cores

Switch 2, being a hybrid console, hurts it.

Not success-wise, but in terms of its capabilities. It's not a good handheld due to shit battery life, input lag, and being too big; and it's not a good console because input lag is even worse when you're not in handheld mode. (Although the same could be said for the switch.)

A powerful handheld like the Switch 2 sounds good on paper until you put it into practice.
I wish they had just made a normal console and handheld again, but unfortunately, they're now locked into making hybrid consoles.

I just personally don't see the appeal when it lasts two hours on native games. I'd rather just play a 3ds or a Vita like handheld

Its not. Strix Halo with 16c/32t and a 40CU IGP comparable to a desktop 4060 can draw 70w PPT which utterly rapes everything and its not even on a bleeding edge node. If the Xilinx AIEs actually had good software support under Windows then all modern AMD chips would be absurd.
Everything is constantly getting better, except software.

There is no such thing as a hybrid console. Its just a tablet that downclocks when unplugged from the wall which is exactly what every single laptop has done since 1995

In terms of end user experience it's hit a technical ceiling. It's like asking why Hellenistic statues stagnated compared to the centuries before, you can already do realism to near perfection and diminishing returns are setting in hard. That said, in 20 years console tech is going to be significantly better than what we have now. A console built with tech from 20 years from now is obviously going to be far stronger and people are still reaching towards the endgame where differences in console generations is truly negligible, you just have to think long term as opposed to a jump like 5th gen to 6th gen. Remember that movies have went through over a hundred years of development and vidya has gone through much less than that.

bro lithium-ion is already an extraordinarily energy dense substance to the point that looking at it funny can turn it into a powerful bomb, an advancement or replacement of li-ion isn't forthcoming, it's only gonna get worse as computer demands get higher

This is one of the least true things ever posted here. A goddamn carrot has higher energy density.

The problem is most PC games are compiled for AMD64, and if you're going to run an AMD64 hardware emulator to play the games, actual AMD64 hardware still has an advantage.
This is unlike the situation with win32 software on AMD64 where NT and GNU/Linux based systems are on relatively equal footing both needing to run a legacy compatibility layer that makes the obsolete VMS derived NT or UNIX based GNU/Linux look like legacy Windows.

As for software, it is only NT that is stagnant, abandoned, and rotting. GNU/Linux based OSes and the RadV driver keep getting better. Strix Halo can now use FSR 4 when used with modern GNU/Linux based OSes.

Retarded non argument. Creating a short between anode and cathode has literally nothing to do with energy density. Lithium batteries are literally less energy dense than basic carbohydrates.

Yes, retard, a carrot does have that potential. Its only a matter of expending that energy rapidly. Stop conflating things you don't understand.

Stop bloviating faggot. The most advanced lithium cells have lower energy density per gram and by unity of volume than fucking food. A pile of white sugar laughs at your cellphone.

What the fuck do you mean bloviating, we can rapidly release potential energy of food just fine by burning it. It doesn't translate to electrical or chemical energy in any meaningful way

I mean bloviating. You are continuing to bloviate. A couple ounces of sugar is an insane amount of energy, it literally has more energy per gram than TNT. Simply burning things at atmospheric pressure does not immediately expend all available energy. Go back to high school. Or middle school.

Video games should be handheld-first. Handhelds have always been the most popular format, DS remains the all time top seller, from a market 20 years ago that was a fraction of what the market is now. It's a way to control development cost and return to being entertainment-focused instead of the psychobabble predatory "never unplug" bullshit. Shills can bitch about Switch2 vs Deck all day long, but at the end of the day they both have more than enough power to run any game imaginable written by a team that has a modicum of talent. FFS my phone runs RE8. Bring back features like streetpass, and make it pocketable. Maybe Sony can get its head out of its ass and make a handheld with an Xperia Play style phone variant for those who want it. Bring back the sleek hardware everyone used to admire. Impress us with how great it feels in hand, instead of trying to jew us out of every fucking nickel possible.
