Steam Hidden Gems
Gimme that weird shit that was clearly made by one dude who got three years into development before he told another person about the game. I need weapons-grade autism that you grind up but by the time you try and snort it off the mirror your reflection beats you to it.

>Visual novel where you help a woman with amnesia who forgets everything whenever she falls asleep.

This game went in a direction that I really wasn't expecting, both in the story department and in how you have to go out of your way in order to get some of the answers that contextualize the events of the story.

in case you aren't interested in VNs or games with ARG elements, I'll summarize the story below:

heavy spoilers, obviously:
[spoilers]There's a family composed of 5 members: Dad, Mom(Sophie), Daughter 1 (Nina), Daughter 2 (Amana) and Son (Ray). Ray isn't relevant. To cut the story short, Dad is an abusive asshole that has a dirty record for domestic abuse. He used to pimp out his own wife. It's implied he used to hit his daughters. One day he began pressuring Amana to sell her body, claiming that her mom used to do it, so she also could. There was a rift in the family from there. Amana eventually grew tired of it all and committed suicide, leaving a voice recording exposing her dad. For some reason, probably due to the violence, Nina went into a coma. Dad left them all by themselves. An old lover of Sophie (Mom) was a renowned neuroscientist developing a machine to help people like Nina by tapping into the subconscious. Because he still had feelings for Sophie, he offered to put Nina in the project free of charge. But then he died. Now the new head, Doctor Miller, is taking full advantage of the situation and backtracking on actual progress that could help Nina just because her mom won't quit paying them. Also, she had to begin whoring herself out again to sustain Nina there. The game itself is basically you playing as people that are participating in this project as test subjects that try to help Nina in her dreams. But the ending makes it very clear that Doctor Miller has no intention of helping Nina get better.[/spoilers]

Yeah I grabbed it on a whim last week and ended up sinking way more time into it than I expected. Visually it looks like something from Newgrounds circa 2006 but the dude absolutely gets card game mechanics. There's some wacky synergy potential too if you dig into it-had a run going with poison stacking and summon spam that felt downright busted until RNG reminded me who's boss. Definitely hoping he keeps updating it.

Posted this in a recent puzzle game thread but it's better suited here. very strong schizo aesthetic with a metric fuckton of mechanics that keep getting added continuously as you keep playing, and there is a lot of different levels and content with a interesting overworld to explore. Atmosphere and world alone make it a 10/10 for me, and the lack of any videos on it makes finding shit feel really rewarding.

I'm surprised to finally have something respond to that rec. People usually turn away the second they read deckbuilder, and the 3 people who don't - end up ignoring it because of the way it looks.
Very glad you liked it. I think the lad's work deserves to be enjoyed. There are definitely no plans to stop updating as far as I'm aware. I've been talking to him on steam forums ever since he released it into EA and he's done a shitload of things both of his own and based on my feedback.

Can you tell me more about this one? Is it some kind of sandbox, or roguelite, or what? It looks nice, but I'm not sure what the core gameplay is supposed to be like and while the pricetag is pretty good it's not really low enough for me to just impulse-purchase it.

This is probably the closest anyone has gotten to a proper F-zero GX sequel
>speed right on target
>tracks designed so that you can actually see
>absolutely amazing sound track
>a few mechanics that separate it from f-zero and prevent it from just being a clone
>decent selection of cars
Every other f-zero homage fails at something major. the last few i've tried have the shittest camera angles ever and you can't even see the turns properly.

Here's the sound track.

it's a roguelite (so there's actual progression). you need to collect enough ambrosia to exit the map and so your village can survive the harvest, but there's this large monster (and other things..) hunting for you. the card drawing mechanic is basically like modifiers that'll affect the next map and some of them change the gameplay quite a bit.

In one of the more credible conspiracy theories compared to your retarded brown skin one, the buy an ad poster is probably a robot set up by 4chan to manufacture the impression that there is a large cohort of people who believe in purchasing ads for some reason. 4chan has a vested interest in ad sales.

Evidence to support this is the sheer quantity of buy an ad posts, when the sites user base generally skews towards piracy and never paying for anything.

Also, the buy an ad posters never respond to insults.

My theory is that the murderer is a shapeshifter sort of like the thing and I got fucked over, because the game has a time component and I could investigate a suspect, find definitive proof it was not him, and move onto another suspect. I did not consider the fact that "The Thing" could appear after I cleared the suspect, and assimilate them. But it leads to another problem. I'm pretty sure I know who the original shapeshifter was. But only by process of elimination and that's not good enough! I need positive confirmation of my theory! or maybe I'm completely wrong and I've got a bad theory and the wrong suspect.

Someone in the last thread recommended HOLE. Picked it up for five bucks and I've been playing it for half an hour or so. I'd recommend it as well.

>Single-player extraction shooter
>First environment you drop into is a The Matrix-looking office building (pic related)
>Lights flicker, muffled gunshots, enemies in suits chasing you or shooting each-other, etc
>Controls are standard and simple. Sprint, crouch, lean, ADS.
>Gimmick is that there's a dedicated key to rack the slide. Your gun can jam, which you resolve by racking the slide, which creates a sort of quicktime event in the middle of firefights. You also need to rerack if you empty the weapon, as opposed to reloading with a round left in the chamber. After your first few gunfights you start counting your bullets and reloading/fixing jams mid-firefight.

I like it. Feels very John Wick. The Steam page says to expect a couple of hours until you exhaust the content, and I think I probably will.

One of the best wargames I've played - very unique take on the genre.

>overall scale is almost tactical with how small the units and hexes are
>4 combat phases per day - morning, noon, afternoon, night
>units recover readiness and fatigue a lot faster when not moving at night, so there's an incentive to hunker down as opposed to going full throttle
>each hex has its own terrain type AND height, so taking the high ground is rewarding but difficult
>recon is VERY important, ambushes can maul units if you don't invest in reconnoitering your advance path
>each side has asymmetric strengths and weaknesses
>ex: for germans, clear weather means a lot better visibility so recon (and thus advancing) is easier - but this means american planes can assrape you
>advancing is held up organically by lack of recon and road network limitations (along with the standard logistical issues of supplies and fuel) so you can't shove a full division through a shitty logging road and expect full performance
>zoc is estimated, your "border" will expand over enemy units if you don't have enough recon, meaning "safe" hexes can have enemy units inside that will fuck you and your supply lines, only way to be sure is extensive recon or physical control
>each side gets reinforcements every few turns so there's always pressure

There is not a real difference between an EA game and a "full" release except that the former is being honest about the state of the game and the development process. CUBE CHAOS is just that.
It's like Powder Toy somewhat, but every cube have MtG-style abilities.
So basically it's a deckbuilder with no random shuffle, where gamefield is not abstract, and due to added clarity you can have like ten times more insane synergies than any other deck game. Sometimes synergies are flat-out contraptions.

I've been browsing this thread (and the previous) and basically all of these games seem like 1-3 hours long game jam tech demo indie games.
Is there ANYTHING among these that is like a proper long game with unexpected twists, a JRPG type mid-point power up (when you think it's all over), or just high difficulty that makes the game feel long? I'm talking 10 hours minimum and proper effort and passion.

Cento. It's an amazing roguelite rhythm game made by a Japanese Youtuber some might recognize from an Undertale medley and a cover of Field of Hopes and Dreams. It's a little hard to explain the gameplay but there's a demo you can try that's an early prerelease build. I haven't played it in a few months but it's been getting surprisingly frequent updates and apparently just 2 days ago it had a huge rework. Also it's a furryge if you're into that.

Think Megaman X crossed with Kirby, dressed in an 00's shareware 3D aesthetic. Has a great sense of spectacle, visual flair, and doesn't take itself too seriously. It's also paced really well (128 stages, no more than a few minutes each, then 128 fully remixed "hard mode" stages, THEN a second character with entirely different mechanics who has their own full set of 128 normal and hard mode stages).

Is there any sort of a game where I can just explore a vast, open world in peace, that would also have some light RPG elements? Maybe like skill trees or some shit like that. Scifi setting would be cool but not mandatory. I just want to autistically grind without having to worry about story or linear progression. No four horsemen bullshit or roguelites/likes, thank you.

I did speak with someone in-game during the last test who had said he was able to recreate and run his own server from scratch. So that could be a possibility.

Some anon suggested this last sale (or maybe one before that) and it quickly became my obession for a while. I don't know the genre very well but it bills itself as grand strategy. Asymetric heroes vs villains gameplay with you as a bunch of elder god's cultists trying to bring about the end of the world. You have to operate out of the shadows/fly under the radar because you are always massively outnumbered but if you play it right you'll have the civilisied people of the world ripping eachother apart in blood feuds while you spread plagues and maddness to hasten your god's awakening. A wide variety of different gods with different play styles and different win conditions such as blotting out the sun and freezing the planet or spreading deep-one cults until the world's population are fishmen.

It's got like a million gameplay mechanics all running on top of eachother, interacting with eachother and constantly creating new opportunities and challenges. But you aren't expected to deal with all of them at once; focusing in one area as your victory condition while supporting it in one or two other ways is usually more than enough to pull off a win.

My only complaint is that magic is shit; too time consuming and fiddly to use with long training to get it and very specifc conditions to apply it.

It's a cool soviet style post-apocalyptic game where you can build trucks and cars, do deliveries, purchase factories, supply those factories with supplies and take the produce into towns, take parcels around, do rally, drag racing, go hunting, scavenging, smuggling drugs.. There is a lot of shit you can do.
Also, the building system for the cars and trucks is pretty insane and you can end up with some mad max tier vehicles, ever felt like making a three wheeler Polski Fiat 126p with a fuckhuge diesel V8 from a truck and twin turbos? Go ahead.

Aneurism can easily pay for itself through the skin drops if you're up for some grinding which you will be doing anyways, I got 20 bucks from the skins within the first night of getting the game, pretty sure you get 3 or 4 drops during the first day so you could buy it and roll your odds, maybe get enough money to buy the rest of the stuff on your list.

Do not get Nuclear Nightmare, it's a scam and will 100% not run well on your PC (incompetent devs) and god awful community btw

Neither did I, I was pretty surprised when the game told me I got a drop and I was trying to figure out where'd it go, checked my inventory and lo' and behold the game just gave me 20€.
I think there are currently around 70 cosmetics, these being the most expensive ones and the rest are more or less shit from 0,03€ to 1,00€, not sure if the rarity system actually works since I've got 4 skins from this list during around 12 hours of gameplay, the game has definitely paid for itself and then some.
And before anyone says anything, I fucking hate this shit in games, but I'm not about to say no to getting my wallet topped off while playing a somewhat enjoyable game.

What are you on about, prices fluctuate, also there are daily sales on the skins, people are actually buying them at the prices.
70 cosmetics in total meaning you roll from a pool of 70 different cosmetics.
Or what the fuck did you mean, if you say I'm illiterate at least conver your message like you would convey it to someone that is illiterate you fuck.

>Corpse Party 2 Dead Patient
DO NOT BUY THIS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. It is unfinished and is never going to come out. The only chapter to be released is still the first chapter that came out over a decade ago. It was absolutely disgusting of XSEED to even translate the first chapter of that and give people hope the game was going to be finished, let alone to keep the fucking thing up on Steam. Now there's an entirely new Corpse Party project coming and they are STILL KEEPING IT UP.

>Blood Drive
While it's a finished game and therefore automatically better than Dead Patient, just know going in that this is a very weak sequel to the original. If you can accept that there's garbage like secret occult assassins and retcons, then and only then can you consider playing that one.

>Butcher's Creek
David's weakest game. The melee combat is weak and just honestly not great. Was disappointed, and this is coming from a fan that's played most of his previous games. Price definitely has something to do with that. It's just too expensive for how long it is.
