It depends, Fire Emblem for example loses all purpose if your waifu dies.
Games full of RNG are also not fun to play unless you savescum because it's quite literally just gambling at this point.
Shmups practically require savescumming to learn the entire game because without it, most are borderline impossible.
I'm perfectly fine with accepting losses in big strategy games though.

With enough persistence, you'll accidentially get through most games but you won't be able to re-do the hard parts consistently, and with ones where you just immediately respawn, you don't even need to get good as you're constantly making progress even if you're dying every 2 seconds.
I like the genre but I really wish it wasn't so heavy on memorization.

Honestly it's not even that, it's that if you lose a unit then it was either accidential and didn't matter because it's a low level or you just lost a powerhouse because of an unlucky boss crit and can't beat the game anymore.
Most of these "SRPGs" share the same problem of just having 2-3 god units that win by themselves and everything else stays benched or on low level.
Langrisser did it right by giving you a bunch of goons with fixed stats while the unique units cast spells or position themselves to boost as many units as possible.
Valkyria Chronicles also had a good thing going on with levels attached to unit types rather than individual units, unfortunately the games suffer from a myriad of other issues, like the braindead AI even for genre standards

Playing the whole game without saving would be crazy, but I had fun with a challenge run recently where I only saved once at the start of each mission on realistic, and it was really fun. Made me appreciate the environmental training skill a lot more.

Not really, they offer very little tactical depth without self imposed challenges, unit counts are too small and differences and weaknesses in units are often erased by levelling up enough or switching to the right class.
Besides there's tons of JRPGs that are exactly what you're looking for, a party of heroes with various skills but it's often dragged down by random chances and dice rolls.
Wizardy, Etrian Odyssey, Disgaea whatever.

Games that don’t have quick save/load are often more immersive and meaningful.
There’s something special about games that force you to live with your choices. No F5 safety net. No F9 do-over. Every move, every decision carries weight. Think Souls series, Ironman XCOM, Rogueliks, or even stuff like Lisa the painful, the tension is real because you can’t undo your mistakes.
When there’s no quickload, you pay attention. You don’t do dumb shit “just to see what happens.” You think, adapt, and learn.
Sure, quicksave is comfy. But without it the world feels less like a toy, and more like a place you exist in.
