I was very disappointed to find out that the Vader 4 Pro only lets you map buttons to single keyboard keys but not combinations, and that macros only support controller buttons. The hair trigger stop, the extra top buttons from the 2C. It's kino. Not sure if it's going to be my go-to DPad/2D game conch but it passed any diagonal tests I threw at it perfectly fine.

8BitDo is the only company I trust. No other company has controllers that seamlessly work on the Steam Deck. Every other company's shit is a fucking nightmare to use as anything but a Switch Pro Controller with digital triggers, because they have button combinations you have to remember (+ hold for the EXACT amount of time necessary) to change it to XInput, only to realize that the XInput mode is WINDOWS ONLY.

Ports were basically garbage for a long fucking time, so Xinput was often the only thing recognized by the game, you didn't have good input rebinding and the MKB controls were usually broken.

I really like it, especially now that it supports full steam input through the dongle with a software update. I feel like it tires my hands out more compared to the tried and true Xbox controller, but that might be on account of me having to be more dextrous pushing all the extra buttons on the back and shoulders, and my hands just aren't used to it.

Anyone tried this thing? Supposedly it's pretty decent and has Hall effect sticks. For a 20 I'm tempted, but I have enough controllers as is.

Some of the games ported to PC run/play shit with KB+M (the default control scheme of the system), so you have to use x360 because it's the default gamepad that has most support from games (many games don't support other control schemes or something). i havent tried the 8bitdo yet, so i couldnt say. looks like the features are similar other than the gulikit having 2 more paddle slots, and paddle slots that allow different paddle types and positioning (like i put my paddles on upside down) and gulikit i think has their own advanced vibration method but idk how much that matters, they are also easy to work on but 8bitdo might be as well.

itll probably come down to which is more comfortable, if you already like the switch pro-like form factor than the 8bitdo is probably what you want. the gulikit is basically a slightly smaller, better-shaped series controller.

i didnt really address your main issue - the kk3 max, to me, feels very premium. there are reviews of the controller where people said they had issues with theirs but this comes with any mass-produced item. i havent had any issues with mine, it feels super nice, but it somehow at the same time very easy to take apart without fucking it up like i did when trying to take apart my xbox controllers.

8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth and it's V2 model have nearly the exact same button count as the Switch 2 Pro minus: no mic, no GameChat button. The extra buttons you said (GL, GR) are present in the exact spot but they don't operate like the Switch 2 Pro controller. A firmware update from 8BitDo makes them work on the Switch 2 as a Pro 1 controller, so if they can reverse the engineer the Pro 2 firmware it'll work as a Pro 2 because they are 90% similar.

Best back buttons on any controller I've used. One of the biggest grievances I have on many controllers, especially 8BD pads, is how spongy and ill-placed they are. You tense up a little and you end up mushing them and inputting when you didn't want to. GameSAAR pads curve the buttons just enough that you can't press the back buttons if your fingers are resting at the top of them.

Nothing wrong with the series x/s d-pad, this isn't the 360 controller, an actual complaint would be them not including hall effect sticks and the sticks barely having any resistance, also the foam underneath the triggers scrapes off and will make them stick because of the glue, horrible design.

Actual legitimate complaint, you'll have to buy a bumper replacement, the part that hits the micro switch on the control is a very thin piece of plastic that looks like a table leg, it snaps off the base very easily, and for whatever retarded reason Microsoft made it so the tip of the plastic hits the microswitch at a 40° angle which creates a bending motion and puts more stress on it. Really dumb

Nobody ever mentions how bad the placement of the toggle switch is on the back of the Ultimate controller (the one that switches between 2.4g or Bluetooth) If you even brush against it slightly, the controller fucking disconnects in the middle of your play session. It's a fucking terrible design flaw and made me drop it and get a Vader 4 Pro instead.
